Job summary

WSP USA is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join the Property & Buildings team in Dallas, TX (with Austin, TX as an alternative work location). You will work on building projects across commercial, corporate, healthcare, science & technology, and education sectors.

Responsibilities include electrical design for new construction and renovations, preparation of construction documents, calculations, and coordination with project teams using AutoCAD and Revit.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Architectural Engineering or equivalent.
  • 3–5 years of building systems electrical design experience.
  • EIT certification or ability to obtain.
  • Experience with NEC, energy codes, and industry standards.
  • Experience with Revit and AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

  • Design electrical systems for new construction, renovations, and tenant improvements.
  • Prepare construction documents including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, telecommunications, and low-voltage designs.
  • Develop calculations for load analysis, equipment sizing, short circuit studies, voltage drop, and photometric analysis.
  • Use AutoCAD and Revit to produce drawings and models.
  • Coordinate electrical designs with architects, mechanical, structural engineers and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in site visits, field investigations, and construction administration activities.
  • Support project managers with schedules, budgets, and deliverable quality.
  • Review shop drawings, RFIs, and contractor submittals during construction.

This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Electrical Engineer to join our Property & Buildings team in Dallas, TX . This position offers the opportunity to work on a wide variety of building projects, including commercial, corporate, mixed-use, civic, healthcare, science & technology, and institutional facilities. Experience supporting higher education projects is highly desirable.

This role can also be based in our Austin, TX office.

Your Impact
  • Perform electrical engineering design for new construction, renovation, and tenant improvement projects.

  • Prepare construction documents, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, telecommunications, and low-voltage system designs.

  • Develop electrical calculations for load analysis, equipment sizing, panel schedules, short circuit studies, voltage drop, and photometric analysis.

  • Utilize AutoCAD and Revit to produce and coordinate engineering drawings and models.

  • Coordinate electrical designs with architects, mechanical engineers, structural engineers, and other project stakeholders.

  • Participate in site visits, field investigations, and construction administration activities.

  • Assist with the preparation of technical reports, studies, specifications, and project documentation.

  • Support project managers in maintaining project schedules, budgets, and deliverable quality.

  • Review shop drawings, RFIs, and contractor submittals during construction.

  • Contribute to quality assurance and quality control reviews.

  • Support business growth by building strong client relationships and delivering exceptional service.

Who You Are
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or equivalent engineering discipline.

  • 3 to 5 years of relevant electrical engineering experience in building systems design.

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe.

  • Experience designing electrical systems for commercial, institutional, healthcare, civic, mixed-use, or similar building projects.

  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), energy codes, and applicable industry standards.

  • Experience preparing construction documents using Revit and AutoCAD.

  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a multidisciplinary team environment.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Proven commitment to workplace safety and quality.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or progress toward licensure.

  • Experience supporting higher education facilities, including academic buildings, laboratories, student centers, residence halls, or campus infrastructure projects.

  • Experience with electrical system studies, lighting controls, emergency power systems, and sustainable design initiatives.

  • Familiarity with BIM coordination and integrated project delivery methods.

  • LEED accreditation or other sustainability-related credentials.

  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.

Compensation:

Expected Salary: $88,500 - $126,600

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position within the state of Colorado, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
