Job Summary

Electrical Engineer – Riverside, CA (also available in Irvine, CA and Los Angeles, CA).

Responsibilities
  • Collect, compile, and analyze data related to substation components, procurement package development, IFR/IRC design and review processes, and IEEE/NESC Standards/NERC regulations.
  • Assist in reviewing third‑party design documents, procurement lists, and project plans.
  • Perform professional electrical engineering work for single‑line, three‑line, wiring diagrams, general arrangement, substation layout and bus arrangement, grounding grid design, and lightning protection in accordance with applicable rules, standards, and permits.
  • Participate in incorporating future‑ready techniques, concept development, operating strategies, equipment sizing, cabling, AC/DC panel design, and conduit and trenching design to ensure safety and functionality.
  • Support senior engineers with research and recommendations of fundamental components and field equipment applications.
  • Verify site characteristics and provide technical assistance on engineering, design, testing, maintenance, and construction procedures.
  • Develop electrical calculations for loads, equipment sizing, feeder sizing, voltage drop, grounding, lighting circuits, facility and electrical service, and power distribution.
  • Prepare data visualizations such as tables, charts, reports, sketches, calculations, and illustrations for analysis and presentation.
  • Maintain quality control standards for precise measurements, statistical analysis, and reporting.
  • Work individually or in cross‑functional teams to execute project work, cost estimation, and ensure compliance with specifications, permits, and regulations.
  • Assist with development and scoping of small to medium‑sized projects.
  • Contribute to technical reports and presentations that explain research and findings.
  • Conduct engineering studies and surveys to acquire information on design and construction problems or future needs.
  • Assist in analyzing, evaluating, and interpreting data from field investigations and develop action plans for risk mitigation.
  • Assist in preparing and implementing site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
  • Collaborate with other engineers and disciplines on projects with electrical infrastructure authorities for federally, state, regional, and locally funded improvements.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering.
  • 3‑5 years of relevant post‑education experience in electrical engineering or prior electrical design experience.
  • Knowledge of electrical engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and permitting and project work.
  • Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management.
  • Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements.
  • Knowledge of relevant engineering and electrical construction laws, codes, regulations, and record‑keeping practices.
  • Capable interpersonal and communication skills for expressing ideas to engineering and non‑engineering audiences.
  • Self‑leadership, attention to detail, results orientation, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks, and comply with company policies.
  • Moderate proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Critical thinking and problem‑solving skills to apply technical knowledge and analyze data.
  • Track record of upholding workplace safety and compliance with health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project‑specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.
  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Professional Licensure/Certification.
  • Prior design experience on education‑related projects.
