Job summary

Carbon Robotics in Seattle is seeking an Electrical Engineer to design and manage the sensors and components for our LaserWeeder robots. You will lead selection, integration, and validation to ensure reliable operation in rugged farming environments.

You will collaborate with software, test, and vendor teams to drive hardware quality and on‑farm reliability, including hands‑on debugging and field support as needed.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience as an Electrical Engineer.
  • Experience with LiDAR, Radar, cameras, GNSS, IMUs, PLCs, automotive Ethernet, and/or automotive cameras.
  • Experience with sourcing and qualifying components for high‑reliability systems.
  • Experience managing vendor and manufacturer relationships.
  • Experience with Altium Designer (v18+).
  • Experience with component to wire harness design and integration.
  • Hands-on hardware debugging and automated verification.
  • Experience with SolidWorks and Jira is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and evaluate high performance sensors (LiDAR, Radar, IMU, GPS, Cameras), and industrial and automotive components (PLCs, power supplies, automotive Ethernet switches) to meet the rigorous demands of 24/7 farming.
  • Own the hardware lifecycle of these COTS components, including research, vendor qualification, trade studies, mechanical and electrical integration, software integration (with the software engineering team), testing, and in-field support.
  • Collaborate with test engineers to define and execute component and integrated system qualification test plans to ensure equipment performs under diverse conditions.
  • Drive technical relationships with COTS suppliers and contract manufacturers to ensure hardware availability and quality.
  • Lead and support key technical decision making through project planning and cross‑functional problem solving.
  • Prototype, debug, and iterate electrical designs through hands-on testing and automated verification.
