Job summary

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is seeking an Intermediate Electrical Engineer in Bettis Construction Department to support facility projects from renovations to new offices, labs, and test facilities. You will contribute to design development, field engineering, and problem solving across electrical infrastructure projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in a technical, engineering or science field with 2+ years of experience; or a Masters with 1+ year of experience.
  • Experience reviewing design packages from subcontracted engineering firms.
  • Familiarity with building power distribution, lighting, grounding, communications, or fire alarm systems.
  • Working knowledge of NEC and applicable electrical/building codes.

Job Description

Bettis Construction Department is seeking an Intermediate Electrical Engineer to support facility projects ranging from renovations to new construction of offices, labs, and test facilities. In this role, you’ll contribute to design development, field engineering, and technical problem solving across a variety of electrical infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in developing project requirements and reviewing design packages from subcontracted engineering firms.
  • Investigate and assess existing electrical systems and integration points for new infrastructure.
  • Support preparation and review of engineering drawings, calculations, and specifications.
  • Conduct field walkdowns and assist with construction oversight to ensure compliance with codes and project standards.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to resolve design and construction issues.
  • Promote safe electrical work practices and adherence to organizational and regulatory requirements.
Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience; or Currently an Intermediate Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company.

Preferred Skills
  • Familiarity with building power distribution, lighting, grounding, communications (phone, data), or fire alarm systems.
  • Familiarity with reviewing design documents provided by subcontracted A/E firms.
  • Experience supporting field engineering or construction activities.
  • Working knowledge of applicable electrical and building codes (NEC familiarity).

Pay Range

$78,700.00 - $120,500.00 annually

Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation. Naval Nuclear Laboratory personnel are FMP employees who work at four DOE facilities: Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and Naval Reactors Facility, and at the U.S. Department of Defense-owned Nuclear Power Training Unit-Charleston. FMP employees also have an established presence at numerous shipyards and vendor locations. For nearly 70 years, the Naval Nuclear Laboratory has developed advanced nuclear propulsion technology, provided technical support, and trained world-class nuclear operators to ensure the safe and reliable operation of our nation's submarine and aircraft carrier Fleets. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is a national asset solely dedicated to the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.
