Job Summary

Design/modification of equipment to improve productivity, safety, and ease of maintenance in foundry, machining, and automation applications. Lead less experienced members of engineering group, giving insight on challenges, explaining examples of past experience, and taking the initiative by working through opportunities that arise.

Responsibilities
  • Define scope of project, working with all plant groups (Electrical, IT, production, maintenance, safety, quality, etc.).
  • Use AutoCAD to create electrical panel layouts and wiring schematics for control panels (24VDC, 120VAC, and 480VAC).
  • Design and develop PLC logic to control various machines. Siemens PLC experience preferred.
  • Program robots for material handling processes.
  • Program vision systems for locating parts and finding defects.
  • Program and debug variable frequency drives.
  • Program and debug servo drives.
  • Create bills of materials and manage selection and procurement of materials.
  • Work in a team environment with mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, electricians, mechanical fabricators, purchasing, etc.
  • Follow and enforce all safety standards.
  • Understanding Hydraulic and Pneumatic P&ID diagrams.
  • Order all components, working with purchasing department.
  • Lead build of electrical panels and machine wiring.
  • Organize installation of equipment, through development of scope of work, and leadership of contractor and WF installation crews.
  • Follow-up with plants to transition equipment to full production.
  • Design of robot cells, following all RIA/OSHA safety standards and guidelines.
  • Create risk assessment document for all new machinery.

Education/Experience Requirements
  • Electrical Engineering, Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent.
Travel Requirements
  • Travel to support the installation of equipment, troubleshooting of equipment, kaizen projects, etc., as needed. Often falls on holiday shut-downs.
  • Travel to plants for start-ups includes:
  • Working with contractors, plant electricians, and mechanical crew.
  • Creating conduit layouts.
  • Creating wire pull schedules.
  • Debug, troubleshoot, and startup of machines.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Provide job shadows for high school/college aged students.
  • Lead summer interns or co-op students.
  • Lead installation crews, often serving as a direct supervisor, responsible for all safety and administrative duties (Hot Work Permits, Pre-job Meetings, Critical Lift Permits, New Equipment Buy-offs, Risk-ranking, etc.).

  • Ability to network and perform in cross-functioning teams of employees, from differing plants and departments.

  • Microsoft Office, Robot Studio, SAP, AutoCAD, Simatic Manager, TIA Portal, Different various software.
Work Environment
  • Majority of time spent in manufacturing engineering office. Some additional areas include Electrical shop, fabrication shop, and foundry.
