Job description

Electrical Engineer – Building Systems Design

Honolulu, HI | $97,960–$124,800 | Direct Hire

Current HawaiĻ experience or established local ties are strongly preferred

My client is looking for an experienced Electrical Engineer to join its Honolulu team.

This is a direct-hire opportunity with a 100% employee-owned multidisciplinary consulting firm that has served HawaiĻ for more than four decades.

You’ll take an active role in the full project lifecycle—from initial investigation and design through final documents and construction. The position combines hands-on electrical engineering with multidisciplinary coordination, client communication, and meaningful project responsibility.

The position

This role is for an engineer who can do more than produce drawings. You’ll help establish design concepts, prepare specifications and coordinated documents, investigate existing conditions, resolve technical issues, and manage deliverables across multiple project phases.

You’ll work directly with clients, architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, project managers, and regulatory agencies. The team needs someone who understands the technical details but can also keep sight of the client’s objectives, project schedule, budget, and final result.

What you’ll do
  • Develop electrical designs from initial concepts through final construction documents.
  • Prepare drawings, specifications, studies, reports, calculations, and submission packages.
  • Perform site investigations, inspections, assessments, and field measurements.
  • Evaluate existing conditions and translate field information into practical electrical designs.
  • Apply city, state, federal, and client-specific codes and design standards.
  • Coordinate electrical systems with architectural, mechanical, civil, and other disciplines.
  • Review documents for accuracy, completeness, constructability, and code compliance.
  • Address comments from clients and internal quality-control reviews.
  • Establish project schedules and manage deliverables across multiple design phases.
  • Prepare quantity takeoffs and opinions of probable construction cost.
  • Present technical information during internal and client meetings.
  • Communicate with clients, consultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Monitor project scope, schedules, deadlines, and financial performance.
  • Develop client relationships through responsive and practical technical guidance.
  • Support and mentor less-experienced engineers and designers.
What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • At least five years of professional electrical design experience.
  • Experience across multiple phases of design and construction.
  • At least five years of AutoCAD experience.
  • Experience preparing coordinated electrical drawings, specifications, reports, and construction-document packages.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, codes, construction methods, and project-delivery processes.
  • Experience with commercial, institutional, government, infrastructure, or other substantial building projects.
  • Ability to manage technical assignments with limited supervision.
  • Strong client communication and multidisciplinary coordination skills.
  • Ability to balance multiple projects and meet firm deadlines.
  • Sound technical judgment and a practical approach to problem-solving.
  • FE/EIT completion is preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Current HawaiĻ experience or established local ties are strongly preferred.
Why consider it?
  • Salary range of $97,960–$124,800, depending on experience.
  • Direct-hire position with an established HawaiĻ firm.
  • 100% employee ownership.
  • More than 40 years of stability and local project experience.
  • Repeated local and national workplace recognition.
  • Involvement in projects from early design through construction.
  • Direct exposure to clients and project decision-makers.
  • Collaboration across architecture, engineering, planning, construction management, and project management.
  • Experience with public, federal, institutional, infrastructure, and private-sector projects.
  • Opportunities to grow into technical leadership, project management, mentoring, and client development.
  • Work with a visible and lasting impact throughout HawaiĻ.

This position is best suited for an electrical engineer who still enjoys technical design but wants greater ownership of projects, client relationships, and final outcomes.
