Job summary

NextFlex is seeking a hands-on hardware design engineer to join the Systems Design team in San Jose. You will design, prototype, and test next-generation additively manufactured flexible hybrid electronic solutions, owning advanced projects across multiple disciplines including firmware and process engineering.

You will work with experts in system integration, firmware, software, testing, and process, contributing to medical devices and consumer electronics across various markets.

Qualifications

  • BS with 3 years of experience or MS with 1 year experience.
  • Experience designing PCBs for size, weight, and power constrained apps.
  • Experience with all phases of PCB design and ECAD tools.
  • Experience with BLE, WiFi, UWB, NFC wireless systems.
  • Strong EE fundamentals and hardware debugging skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and test electrical devices on systems with advanced additive manufacturing.
  • Create schematic capture and footprint elements; manage libraries.
  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and scientists.
  • Assist and participate in embedded C/C++ software development.

Position Summary

NextFlex is looking for a hands‑on hardware design engineer to join the Systems Design team. In this role, you will design, prototype, and test the next generation of additively manufactured flexible hybrid electronic solutions.

This is a unique role perfect for an engineer who is interested in owning advanced projects. You will have the opportunity to participate in all phases of system design and test. You will work closely with our experts in system integration, firmware, software, testing, and process, in a broad range of industries from medical devices to consumer electronics.

Essential Job Functions And Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and test electrical devices on systems with advanced additive manufacturing techniques.
  • Schematic capture and layout; create footprint elements in parts libraries.
  • Communicate and collaborate with a multi‑disciplinary team of engineers and scientists.
  • Assist and participate in the development of embedded C/C++ software.
Minimum Qualifications (knowledge, Skills, And Abilities)
  • B.S. with 3 years of experience or MSEE with 1 year experience.
  • Experience designing PCBs for size, weight, and power constrained applications.
  • Experience with all phases of PCB design: part selection, schematic creation, constraint setting, library management, board layout, and manufacturing document creation.
  • Experience with PCB ECAD tools.
  • Experience with wireless systems such as BLE, WIFI, UWB, NFC.
  • Strong EE fundamentals and HW debugging skills with lab equipment.
Preferred Qualifications (knowledge, Skills, And Abilities)
  • Proficiency with Siemens EDA Xpedition Schematic and Layout tools.
  • Proficiency with HyperLynx SI/PI, HyperLynx Full Wave Solver, or HFSS.
  • Experience designing for low‑power systems with multiple mixed signal ICs, power management devices, wired/wireless charging, and sensors.
  • Experience with layout for low noise applications/high‑noise environments.
  • Experience designing Flex devices or non‑planar electronics.
  • Experience with the following common communication protocols: SPI, UART, USART, I2C, USB.
  • Experience with designing electrical devices for medical systems.
  • Experience with firmware development in C or C++ for embedded systems.

On‑site office work will be conducted using general office equipment, includes substantial sitting and is performed primarily in a typical indoor office setting with cubicles, offices, and conference rooms. Travel Requirements

Up to 10% domestic travel.
