Job summary

Moffatt & Nichol is seeking an Electrical Engineer with a specialty in power systems to join the MEI team in San Diego or Long Beach. You will work on large and small projects locally and internationally, including ports and marinas, collaborating with an international team.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, a California P.E. or reciprocity within 18 months, and 6–10+ years of relevant experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
  • P.E. licensure in California or eligible via reciprocity within 18 months.
  • 6–10+ years in medium/low voltage power distribution, grounding, comms, and switchgear.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD or Revit.

Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical design projects within the MEI team and coordinate with other disciplines.
  • Travel to sites to assess conditions and interface with clients and utilities.
  • Review calculations, drawings, procurement specs, and construction specs.
  • Deliver electrical designs and specifications for medium/low voltage systems and equipment.
  • Assist with project scope evaluations and QC processes.

Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field. We are actively searching for an Electrical Engineer with a specialty in power systems to join our Mechanical, Electrical, and Instrumentation (MEI) team in San Diego or Long Beach. The successful Electrical Engineer will work on both large and small projects locally, domestically and internationally. Projects include: ports, cargo terminals, shipyards, large and small marinas, port authority, and municipal. We are looking forward to mentoring and developing your skills in the growing horizontal / infrastructure market! You will work with an international MEI team and Senior Engineers around the company through our intraoffice staff utilization program. Thus, growing your skills beyond the state and country for which you work. You will support projects both on the job site as well as in the office.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Manage electrical design projects by collaborating and working with the overall MEI design Team.
  • Alone or with other project staff, travel to site, meet with clients, utilities, and other parties to investigate site conditions/third party interface requirements for the project.
  • Review and provide oversite of design calculations, design drawings, procurement specifications, and construction specifications.
  • Complete electrical designs to support firm-wide projects by working with Project Managers (any discipline) and electrical teammates
  • Provide design calculations, design drawings, and project specifications for the following but not limited to:
  • Medium/low voltage power distribution systems
  • Grounding systems
  • Communications systems
  • Electrical equipment design (including switchboards and switchgear)
  • Selective coordination and arc flash studies
  • Assist with the electrical designs for multidiscipline projects
  • Assist with evaluations of project scopes
  • Travel to the site or meet with clients, sub-consultants, utilities, and other parties to investigate site conditions and meet project requirements
  • Assist in companywide Quality Assurance and Quality Control processes
  • Successfully communicate and interact with internal and external clients and team members

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology; required
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensure in the State of California or the ability to obtain via reciprocity within 18 months of hire; required
  • 6 to 10+ years of related experience in:
  • Medium/low voltage power distribution systems
  • Grounding systems
  • Communications systems
  • Electrical equipment design and specifications (including switchboards and switchgear)
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Revit; required
  • Proficiency ETAP or EasyPower and AGI32; preferred
  • Analytical skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel & PowerPoint), report and letter writing and oral communication skills.
  • Possession of or eligibility to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC)
