Job summary

Parette Somjen Architects LLC is seeking an MEP / Electrical Engineer to lead design, documentation, and coordination for a range of projects. The role requires directing staff, ensuring schedules, and maintaining quality through all phases of design and construction.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, PE certification preferred, and strong English communication skills. Hybrid work environment with sites travel involved is expected.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design and documentation for Mechanical/Plumbing/Fire Protection or Electrical/Technology/Fire Alarm disciplines.
  • Coordinate project teams and communicate with engineering leadership.
  • Review deliverables for code compliance and accuracy.
  • Oversee project production schedules and workload of discipline engineers and job captains.
  • Collaborate with architectural studios and other discipline engineers.
  • Seek out professional development opportunities.

POSITION SUMMARY

The MEP / Electrical Engineer is responsible for directing all design, technical, and administrative efforts to ensure the most efficient and cost-effective execution of assigned work in pursuit of design excellence. They serve as the lead engineerresponsible for all aspects of drawing / documentation creation related to their engineering discipline (Mechanical / Plumbing / Fire Protection or Electrical / Technology / Fire Alarm) They actively manage project schedule, program, documentation, and team / project assignments. They regularly communicate with the Engineering technical director and with staff working with them to identify staffing needs and communicate projections to engineering leadership. They assist with estimates of fees, determine scope of work, and assist with project hour and fee breakdowns to obtain project work within the organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership, Management, Accountability (LMA)
  • Assist staff in development of industry knowledge and engineering skills by example, and by seeking out learningopportunities related to new codes, technologies, materials, etc.
  • Provide weekly time sheet review
  • Complete monthly review of hours and meet with engineering technical director as required.
  • Maintain continuous flow of critical information for projects and within the office.
  • Effective communication with your team, supervisor and others in and out of the office
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Sign and Seal Engineering documents
  • Supervise the creation of engineering documents
Project Coordination
  • Collaborate with other discipline engineers, architectural teams, consultants, and the technical director to complete all required quality review milestones.
  • Lead project meetings with agendas to ensure coordination for all other project team members associated withengineering design of projects.
  • Oversee construction contract administration and attend construction meetings and site walks as required by the project.
Review of Deliverables
  • Oversee and ensure contract documentation submittals for agency review and permit approval.
  • Review appropriate calculations, drawings, and specifications for project delivery.
  • Verify code compliance of all their respective engineering project designs.
Project Production Schedule
  • Consistently utilize Project Management Road Map Tools and Project Manager Checklists.
  • Responsible for overseeing the appropriate discipline engineering designers and job captain's workload, responsibilities, and project specific tasks.
Relationship Support
  • Assist and maintain good communication between the engineering team and architectural studios.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering technology degree from an accredited program.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering documentation and current construction standards.
  • Advanced understanding of architectural engineering and related fields.
  • Proficient oral and written English communication skills
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
