Job summary

The Chemours Company invites you to join our Titanium Technologies team in New Johnsonville, Tennessee as an Instrument & Electrical Reliability Engineer. You will support maintenance and operations, drive root-cause analyses, and implement reliability programs across 480V systems and instrumentation.

You will affect safety, quality, and cost through proactive engineering, procedures, and collaboration with operators and technicians, with relocation assistance available.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years of related industrial/manufacturing work experience or military equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of instruments, analyzers, basic electric 120VAC up to 480V, wiring, power panels, heat trace, motors, starters, VFDs, control valves.
  • Strong problem-solving and data-based decision making.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide E&I engineering assistance to maintenance and operations including troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Develop area expertise to review maintenance procedures and training.
  • Initiate management of change documents to improve safety, quality, and cost.
  • Develop and implement reliability and QA programs for the unit.
  • Provide technical expertise for all I&E up to 480V.
  • Partici­pate in hazard analyses and capital project scope development.
  • Lead root cause analysis teams and kaizen events.
  • Prepare and audit scopes of work, estimates, schedules and specs.
  • Review preventive maintenance plans to ensure optimal performance.
  • Evaluate vendor proposals for function, cost, and timing.
  • Collaborate with site reliability engineers to drive improvements.
  • Provide shift/weekend coverage for startups and non-routine needs.

Chemours currently has a position available for an experienced I** nstrument & Electrical Reliability Engineer (I&E Reliability Engineer) at our Titanium Technologies facility in New Johnsonville, Tennessee**.

Relocation assistance is available for this role.

Chemours New Johnsonville site is part of the Titanium Technologies business and focuses on the production of TiO2 Pigment and Slurry. The operating units at the Chemours New Johnsonville site are designated as highly hazardous processes. The site is a key asset in the Chemours supply chain for the Titanium Technologies business.

The I&E Reliability Engineer will be assigned to one of three operating areas to support daily maintenance activities for I&E crews and operators. The I&E Reliability Engineer will be expected to drive instrument and electrical issues to root cause using a team-based approach. This role will include analyses of a range of equipment issues as well as maintenance and reliability support. Additionally, the E&I Engineer will be expected to provide timely, accurate analyses and recommendations for small, acute issues, as well as develop long term strategies for defect elimination and improved operations.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide E&I engineering assistance to maintenance and operations including troubleshooting, evaluation of equipment failures, and technical recommendations for repairs and upgrades.

  • Develop knowledge in area specific equipment to become subject matter experts for the review and preparation of maintenance work procedures and skills development/training.

  • Initiate management of change documents to improve the safety, quality, environmental impact or cost of the production area.

  • Provide technical assistance to develop and implement Mechanical Integrity/Quality Assurance, Reliability, and PPM programs for the unit.

  • Provide technical expertise for all I&E up to 480V:

  • Participate in process hazards analyses and scope development for capital projects.

  • Lead area root cause failure analysis teams, kaizen events, and problem‑solving sessions.

  • Prepare and audit scopes of work, estimates, schedules and equipment specifications.

  • Periodically review preventive maintenance plans and procedures to assure optimum process and frequency of performance.

  • Evaluate vendor proposals and designs and exercise effective judgment around functionality, cost, and timing.

  • Network with site reliability engineers and technicians to support improvement initiatives.

  • Provide shift/weekend coverage for start‑ups, tests, maintenance Turnarounds or other non‑routine needs.

The following is required for this role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or strongly related degree.

  • 3+ years of experience in related industrial /manufacturing work experience or Military Equivalent Experience (also includes co‑op or intern experience).

  • Working knowledge of 2 or more of the following: Instruments (level, flow, pressure), Analyzers, Basic Electric 120VAC up to 480V, wiring, power panels, heat trace, Motors, Starters, VFD, Control Valves.

  • High degree of personal initiative and flexibility to move projects forward safely and in a timely manner.

  • Ability to diagnose and solve technical problems – making data‑based decisions.

  • Prioritize and manage short duration deadlines, emergency situations, and multiple priorities.

  • Comfortable working both independently and in a team environment.

  • Clearly communicate technical ideas with a diverse team.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence leadership, peers, and technicians; able to take a “hands‑on” approach with operators and technicians to drive change and get results

  • Proficient in typical business software such as Microsoft Office, etc.

  • Strong Written and Oral Communication.

  • Willing and able to wear required PPE (personal protective equipment) such as steel toes, hard hat, eye protection, respirators, etc.

The following is preferred for this role:

  • Prior experience working with field personnel in operations troubleshooting activities.

  • Strong background in Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA).

  • Strong Process Safety Management (PSM) background.

  • Experience with Probability of Failure (PFD) analysis on Safety Interlock systems.

  • Experience with Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA).

  • Demonstrated knowledge of industry standards (NEC, ISA, etc.).

  • Working knowledge of industry codes and best practices/programs in engineered solutions.

  • Experience with PLC systems.

  • Demonstrated work experience in power systems analysis and applications.

  • Knowledge of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and automated equipment, and the maintenance programs associated with them.

  • Working knowledge of Systems Applications and Products (SAP).
