Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Electrical Engineer to join our engineering team. This position will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and supporting electrical systems and components, with a strong emphasis on wire harness design, electrical schematics, control systems, and product development.

The ideal candidate will have strong electrical engineering fundamentals, experience with wire harness design, and the ability to take a project from concept through production. This role will work closely with engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, quality, and suppliers to develop reliable, cost-effective electrical solutions.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Design and develop electrical systems, wiring, and electrical components for new and existing products.
  • Design and develop wire harnesses, including wire selection, routing, connectors, terminals, splices, protective coverings, and labeling.
  • Create and maintain electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, harness drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs).
  • Select appropriate electrical components, connectors, terminals, wire, fuses, relays, switches, and other hardware.
  • Develop harness layouts and ensure designs meet electrical, mechanical, environmental, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Work with manufacturing to ensure harness designs are practical, efficient, and cost-effective to produce.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and wiring issues and provide technical support to production and service teams.
  • Perform electrical testing, validation, and troubleshooting of prototypes and production products.
  • Develop test procedures and assist with validation of electrical systems.
  • Review and approve engineering changes related to electrical systems and wire harnesses.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers to ensure electrical components and harnesses properly integrate with mechanical designs.
  • Work with suppliers on electrical components, harnesses, and related materials.
  • Research new electrical technologies, components, and design methods.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve product reliability, quality, cost, and manufacturability.
  • Assist with root-cause analysis and corrective actions related to electrical failures.
  • Maintain accurate engineering documentation and revision control.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable electrical, safety, and industry standards.
  • Provide technical support to customers, service personnel, and internal teams as needed.
  • Participate in product development, design reviews, prototype builds, and production launches.

Wire Harness Design Responsibilities

The Electrical Engineer will have significant responsibility for wire harness development, including:

  • Creating complete wire harness designs and electrical schematics.
  • Determining wire gauges, insulation types, and circuit requirements.
  • Selecting connectors, terminals, seals, clips, conduit, loom, and protective materials.
  • Developing harness routing and attachment methods.
  • Creating harness drawings and manufacturing documentation.
  • Developing harness BOMs and maintaining component specifications.
  • Designing for manufacturability, serviceability, reliability, and cost.
  • Troubleshooting harness failures and electrical connectivity issues.
  • Working with harness suppliers and manufacturing personnel to resolve design or production issues.
  • Supporting prototype and production harness builds.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering field preferred.
  • 3+ years of electrical engineering experience preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with wire harness design and electrical system development.
  • Experience creating electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Knowledge of electrical components, connectors, terminals, relays, switches, fuses, and circuit protection.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and technical documentation.
  • Experience with CAD or electrical design software.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with automotive, mobile equipment, hydraulics, controls, or similar electrical systems.
  • Experience with 12V/24V DC electrical systems.
  • Experience designing harnesses for harsh or outdoor environments.
  • Experience with CAN bus or other communication networks.
  • Experience with PLCs, embedded controls, or vehicle control systems.
  • Experience with electrical testing and validation.
  • Experience working with contract manufacturers or wire harness suppliers.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and electrical safety requirements.
