Job summary

HDR, Inc. is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer in Los Angeles to lead electrical design for large institutional and industrial projects.

You’ll coordinate the electrical design team, ensure code compliance, and mentor staff while delivering high-quality documents on schedule. Required qualifications include a PE license, a degree in Electrical or Architectural Engineering with an electrical emphasis, and proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, SKM, AGI, and Easy Power.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with an Electrical emphasis.
  • Experience in electrical design of buildings (lighting, power, systems).
  • Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board (PE or equivalent).
  • Strong computer skills using AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, Revit, SKM, AGI, and Easy Power.

  • Write/edit specifications and select electrical equipment and devices.
  • Coordinate addenda, RFIs, CPRs, and change orders with related disciplines.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Job description

As part of HDR’s Building Engineering Services Group, you’ll help design the critical infrastructure that supports the digital age and shapes the spaces where people work, connect, and thrive. From high-performance data centers driving the future of AI to dynamic commercial environments, your work will directly support technological advancement, sustainability, and human experience. You will be involved in mechanical, electrical, structural, and civil engineering challenges with precision, creativity, and collaboration.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the work of the electrical design team on large institutional/industrial projects through the schematic design development and contract document phase of a project.
  • Establish meetings and participate in reviews with various governing agencies for code compliance.
  • Coordinate workload to complete the document on schedule.
  • Assume the electrical lead on many projects.
  • Direct the activities of other electrical engineering professionals, and act as a mentor to other staff members as needed.
  • Conduct QA/QC on the work of other Electrical Engineers, Electrical Coordinators, or Technicians.
  • Write/edit electrical specifications and select equipment, electrical systems, and devices.
  • Coordinate with and assist affected disciplines with addenda, RFIs, CPRs, and change orders, and take responsibility to incorporate agreed‑upon changes into the project documents.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm desired.
  • Experience in the following market sectors: Healthcare OSHPD / HCAI, Education, Sciences, Laboratories, Civic, Technology, and Data Centers.
  • California Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in the electrical design of buildings.
  • Experience and/or interest in sustainable design/LEED is desired but not required.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with an Electrical emphasis.
  • Previous experience in electrical design of buildings (lighting, power, systems).
  • Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered (e.g., Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng)).
  • Strong computer skills using AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, Revit, SKM, AGI, and Easy Power.
