Job description

The Division designs, develops, manufactures, and markets capital equipment primarily used in the assembly process of Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) and other industrial applications. Research, sustain, and design electrical control systems for Wave Solder and Cleaning equipment, meeting engineering standards, applicable codes and customer specifications.

Responsibilities:
  • The primary focus of this role will center around research, sustain, and design electrical control systems for Wave Solder and Cleaning equipment, meeting engineering standards, applicable codes and customer specifications. The day to day responsibilities will include but are certainly not limited to: Design, develop, modify, fabricate, test, and evaluate electrical/electronic components, circuitry, and systems used in electronic and electromechanical equipment.
  • Complete electrical design activities from concept through product launch, including development of design specifications, component selection, material and instrument requirements, and electrical documentation.
  • Analyze and recommend design approaches, methods, materials, and processes to meet production requirements and improve existing products and processes.
  • Define I/O mapping and configure, test, and tune machine control systems, including PID control, VFDs, and motion control components.
  • Design and test PC-based computer interfaces and work with computer suppliers to establish hardware specifications for machine applications; create and deploy custom Windows images as required.
  • Conduct prototype and experimental runs and compile and evaluate design and test data to develop technical specifications and support design decisions.
  • Review and approve engineering inputs, including drawings, specifications, bills of material (BOMs), and other technical documentation; complete engineering documentation through PCO release and follow applicable PCO/Special Order processes.
  • Provide electrical engineering support and troubleshooting to manufacturing, technical support, field service, sales,
  • Work directly with customers and internal teams to gather requirements, evaluate feature requests, troubleshoot issues, and develop appropriate technical solutions.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineering, software engineering, technical support, project management, and other functions throughout all phases of projects.
  • Assist with quotations and cost estimates for special/custom products and projects.
  • Plan, organize, and execute technical projects, monitoring progress, identifying potential schedule disruptions, and coordinating engineering resources to ensure timely completion.
  • Independently analyze and resolve complex technical problems and provide technical guidance and consultation to engineering staff and other departments.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and mentor and share knowledge with team members.
  • Perform light sub-assembly and other hands-on activities as needed to support product development, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision and lead small, lower-risk engineering projects as assigned.
  • Demonstrate expertise in at least one machine platform and serve as a technical resource for that platform.
Requirements:
  • BS in Electrical Engineering is required for this role. Ability to plan, organize and conduct technical projects within the time and financial constraints set for projects.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems for communication, sensor functions and PID control.
  • Experience with the design and development of projects involving software-controlled electromechanical system.
  • Experience in design of capital equipment.
  • Knowledge of transformer design and power supply sizing.
  • Working knowledge of stepper and servo motion control system.
  • A solid understanding of PID parameters with respect to drives.
  • Ability to measure, test and tune motion control systems for optimal mechanical behavior.
  • Knowledge and use of logic analyzers and oscilloscope.
  • Proficient in the use of SolidWorks is a plus.
