Your Main Responsibilities
The Electrical Engineer—Field Support position provides on site and remote assistance for installed elevator systems, with a strong emphasis on troubleshooting, diagnostics, and service restoration. Under the guidance of senior field engineers, this role supports fault isolation on controllers, drives, sensors, and communication networks; documents findings; implements safe, approved corrective actions; and communicates clearly with mechanics, building stakeholders, and internal engineering teams. This is a hands on, customer facing role.

  • Assist with fault isolation on elevator control panels, VFDs, door operators, encoders, limit/leveling switches, safety circuits, COP/Hall call devices, and related subsystems.
  • Use diagnostic tools such as multimeters, clamp meters, oscilloscopes, and handheld programmers to verify power, signals, grounding, and noise.
  • Support parameterization and verification of VFDs and elevator controllers, including validation of I/O maps, encoder counts, direction/leveling signals, and braking logic.
  • Assist with debugging car/group communications and device networking issues (e.g., RS-485, CAN, Modbus).
Remote Support & Technical Escalation
  • Collect logs, fault codes, and configuration snapshots and provide accurate problem descriptions for senior support and engineering escalation.
  • Apply approved firmware and parameter updates and restore validated baseline configurations when required.
Commissioning, Maintenance & Reliability
  • Execute standardized post-repair checks, including power-up, homing/leveling, door operation, ride quality basics, emergency operations, and acceptance testing as directed.
  • Record baseline performance metrics such as voltages, currents, error counters, and trip histories for future comparison.
  • Assist with periodic inspections, functional checks, and performance measurements; identify emerging issues and recommend proactive corrective actions.
  • Capture field learnings and contribute to the continuous improvement of troubleshooting guides and service bulletins.
Documentation, Compliance & Record Management
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, ladder logic, single-line diagrams, and wiring schedules.
  • Redline wiring diagrams, update terminal schedules, and maintain configuration records to keep service documentation current.
  • Create concise service reports detailing work performed, test data, photos/markups, and recommendations.
  • Adhere to QA procedures and maintain traceable records of replaced parts, firmware versions, and parameter settings.
  • Ensure work aligns with applicable codes, standards, company policies, and site safety requirements.
  • Follow LOTO and site safety procedures, including verification of safety chain integrity, emergency stop circuits, and door/gate interlocks before and after service work.
Customer, Site & Cross-Functional Coordination
  • Communicate status, risks, and next steps to mechanics, supervisors, building representatives, and other stakeholders.
  • Coordinate parts, materials, and vendor support activities to minimize downtime.
  • Partner with field mechanics, project and operations managers, product engineering, and technical support teams.
