We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to support the design, reliability, expansion, and modernization of electrical systems across midstream and energy infrastructure facilities.
This position will provide technical leadership for both operating assets and capital projects, with responsibility for power distribution, electrical equipment selection, system studies, engineering design, construction support, and commissioning. The engineer will work closely with operations, project management, construction, maintenance, engineering contractors, utilities, and equipment vendors to ensure electrical systems are safe, reliable, maintainable, and compliant with applicable codes and standards.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with industrial power systems and electrical equipment within midstream, oil & gas, gas processing, pipeline, petrochemical, or similar heavy industrial environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide electrical engineering support for existing facilities, expansions, reliability improvements, and major capital projects.
- Develop and evaluate electrical designs for power generation, utility interconnections, medium- and low-voltage distribution, motors, motor controls, VFDs, emergency power, lighting, grounding, alarms, and shutdown systems.
- Specify and select electrical equipment for operating facilities and complex capital projects.
- Develop equipment specifications, technical bid packages, bid evaluations, and vendor recommendations.
- Perform or review electrical system studies, including:
- Short-circuit analysis
- Arc-flash analysis
- Protective device and relay coordination
- Voltage-drop calculations
- Load-flow and load-shedding studies
- Develop and maintain electrical engineering specifications, design standards, and electrical area classification drawings.
- Review engineering drawings, calculations, equipment specifications, studies, and material selections prepared by third-party engineering firms and contractors.
- Ensure electrical designs comply with applicable NEC, NFPA, API, OSHA, and other industry or regulatory requirements.
- Troubleshoot electrical and control-system issues affecting new and existing facilities and develop practical engineering solutions.
- Support electrical reliability initiatives involving switchgear, transformers, MCCs, protective relays, motors, VFDs, generators, UPS/emergency power systems, and associated distribution equipment.
- Evaluate power distribution strategies and identify opportunities to improve system reliability, efficiency, and energy utilization.
- Coordinate with electric utilities and other external service providers regarding facility power requirements, interconnections, agreements, and technical issues.
- Develop technical scopes of work, project cost estimates, and engineering input for capital authorization.
- Support project planning and execution by monitoring engineering scope, cost, schedule, procurement, construction, and technical deliverables.
- Provide field engineering support during construction, equipment installation, testing, commissioning, and facility startup.
- Coordinate multiple concurrent projects and field activities while maintaining schedule, budget, safety, and quality expectations.
- Partner with Operations, Construction, Maintenance, Project Management, EHS, Supply Chain, Commercial, Finance, and other internal stakeholders.
- Identify and develop improvement projects focused on safety, reliability, regulatory compliance, equipment performance, and operating efficiency.
- Support short- and long-term capital planning for electrical infrastructure and facility improvements.
- Prepare technical reports, engineering recommendations, calculations, studies, and other documentation as required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited four-year university.
- Experience with industrial electrical engineering, power distribution systems, or electrical equipment.
- Working knowledge of applicable electrical codes and standards, including NEC and NFPA requirements.
- Ability to interpret electrical one-lines, schematics, equipment specifications, studies, and other engineering documentation.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to evaluate electrical system problems and recommend practical solutions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Electrical engineering experience within midstream, natural gas, pipelines, gas processing, oil & gas, refining, petrochemical, chemical, or other process industries.
- Experience designing and supporting medium- and low-voltage power distribution systems.
