Job summary

Insight global is hiring a Consulting Principal Electrical Engineer reports directly to the President. This is a fast‑growing, multi‑market liquid‑fuel‑handling consulting and design firm based in Culver City.

This role holds full responsibility for electrical and controls engineering, including leadership of the electrical discipline and coordination with mechanical, fire protection, construction, and contracts teams nationwide.

This position serves as an authoritative technical leader, making firm‑wide decisions related to engineering standards, staffing, budgeting, and technology/software direction. The role includes daily interaction with company leadership, clients, and internal teams, with high reliance placed on engineering judgment and recommendations. Independent business development is encouraged, with mentorship provided by executive leadership.

Skills and Requirements

7+ years of experience as an Electrical Engineer

Active Professional Engineer (PE) license, with the ability to obtain registration in additional states

Experience with API RP 500 hazardous-location classifications

Experience with control systems and a solid understanding of electrical design principles

Experience developing and reviewing electrical schematics

Current knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC)

Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or a related field

Experience within oil and gas, midstream, refinery, wastewater, petroleum terminal, aviation fuel, or related facilities

Proven leadership experience within petroleum terminal, aviation fuel, or similar industrial environments

Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with project managers and executive leadership

Willingness to travel nationwide occasionally, up to 20% annually Flexible on the depth of controls experience

Must be willing to maintain licensing and pursue registration in additional U.S. states

Power distribution design experience for facilities up to 100 acres

Medium- and low-voltage experience, including 13.8 kV, 4.16 kV, and 2.4 kV systems

Experience with utility interfaces, transformers, switchgear, grounding, lightning protection, and short-circuit studies

Knowledge of standby power, emergency power, UPS, and VFD systems

Exposure to PLC, SCADA, distributed control, and communication systems
