Key Responsibilities
- Design electrical systems for higher education facilities including power distribution, lighting, emergency power, fire alarm, and telecommunications
- Apply healthcare design standards and experience to specialized academic medical facilities and health sciences buildings
- Develop detailed construction documents, specifications, and cost estimates
- Collaborate with architects, other engineering disciplines, and clients throughout project lifecycles
- Perform electrical engineering calculations and analysis using industry-standard software
- Conduct site assessments and field investigations of existing facilities
- Provide construction administration services including shop drawing review and site visits
- Mentor junior electrical engineers and coordinate with electrical designers
- Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and regulations including NFPA, NEC, and healthcare-specific requirements
- Develop innovative solutions that meet sustainability goals and energy efficiency requirements
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical engineering design
- Demonstrated experience with healthcare facility design, including knowledge of healthcare codes and standards
- Experience with higher education projects preferred
- Proficiency in electrical design software such as Revit, AutoCAD, and electrical analysis programs
- Strong understanding of power distribution systems, lighting design, and low voltage systems
- Knowledge of energy codes and sustainable design practices
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- LEED accreditation
- Experience with laboratory and research facility design
- Knowledge of smart building technologies and building automation systems
- Familiarity with design-build project delivery methods
- Experience mentoring junior staff
