Job summary

Cushing Terrell is seeking an Electrical EIT or Designer to support healthcare projects nationwide from our Boise or Billings offices. You will work across lighting, load calculations, power distribution, and generator systems, delivering construction documents from design through QC and construction administration.

Qualifications

• Experience or coursework in electrical building design; entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply.
• Working knowledge of Revit or AutoCAD for electrical modeling; general design proficiency.
• Familiarity with NEC requirements including branch circuits, panel schedules, and load calculations.
• Familiarity with lighting design fundamentals and IES footcandle standards.
• Strong written and verbal communication; able to collaborate in a team.

Responsibilities

• Produce electrical design drawings in Revit and AutoCAD for lighting, power, panels, and one-line diagrams.
• Perform electrical calculations including load calculations and conductor sizing.
• Design emergency power and generator systems for healthcare occupancies.
• Coordinate with Engineers of Record and other designers; incorporate redlines and QC rounds.
• Support construction administration with RFIs and permit comments; document field observations.
• Contribute across a full range of electrical scopes aligned with your interests.

Position Description

Cushing Terrell is hiring an Electrical Designer to work across nearly every scope of electrical design, including lighting design, load calculations, power distribution, generator and emergency power systems, fire alarm coordination, data systems, and battery backup, on a national portfolio of healthcare projects ranging from medical office buildings and clinics to full scale hospitals and specialized patient housing facilities. Based on-site in our Boise or Billings office, you will work within a collaborative team producing construction documents from initial design through QC review and construction administration.

Within your first 30 days you will know how to navigate our systems and contribute billable work on a healthcare project. By 90 days you are a full team member working across multiple scopes and identifying where you want to build depth. Long-term, the path forward is yours to define, whether that means becoming the go-to expert on healthcare electrical systems or stepping into a team lead role managing projects and other designers.

Position Salary Range*

The expected salary range for this position is $73,000 to $82,000 annually.

Required Qualifications**

• Experience or academic coursework in electrical building design, entry-level candidates and recent graduates encouraged to apply
• Working knowledge of Revit or AutoCAD for electrical modeling, or demonstrated proficiency in electrical design principles
• Familiarity with National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements, including branch circuit design, panel schedules, conductor sizing, and load calculations
• Familiarity with lighting design fundamentals, including IES footcandle standards and lighting controls
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications**

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
• Experience with healthcare, institutional, or other regulated-occupancy building projects
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or intent to pursue the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
• Experience with SKM power analysis software, Bluebeam, or lighting calculation tools such as AGi32 or similar

Position Responsibilities***

• Produce electrical design drawings in Revit and AutoCAD, including lighting plans, power layouts, panel schedules, and one-line diagrams, from initial design through QC review and permit-ready document sets
• Perform electrical calculations including load calculations, conductor and breaker sizing, voltage drop analysis, and panel sizing to support accurate and code-compliant designs
• Design emergency power and generator systems to meet the reliability standards required for healthcare occupancies
• Interpret client standards and code requirements to adapt designs for hospitals, clinics, medical office buildings, and specialized care facilities
• Coordinate with Engineers of Record and fellow designers throughout the design process, incorporating redline comments and advancing drawings through multiple QC rounds to final sign-off
• Support construction administration by responding to RFIs, reviewing permitting comments, and coordinating design changes with contractors and engineering team members
• Conduct occasional site surveys and field walks to document existing conditions that inform design work
• Contribute across a full range of electrical scopes, building depth in areas aligned with your interests and strengths

• Actual pay will be determined based on the candidate's years of experience, licensure status, location, level of proficiency, and other job-related factors (as permitted by law). This position is also eligible for an annual performance bonus.
