Job summary

HDR, Inc. is seeking an Electrical EIT/Designer to join our power generation electrical/control group in Charlotte, NC. This role supports design packages for hydro, solar, coal, and cycle-based facilities under senior engineers.

Responsibilities include system upgrades, calculations, and interfacing with PLC/DCS controls. Preferred candidates hold an EIT and experience with ETAP, SKM, AutoCAD, Revit, and MicroStation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required.
• Engineer In Training (EIT) certification preferred or must be obtained.
• Experience with power market design software is a plus (ETAP, SKM, AutoCAD, Revit, MicroStation).

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed design packages for new and modified power generation facilities.
• Include relay protection upgrades, plant control system upgrades, and related equipment.
• Work on projects with clear objectives and limited variables.
• Run engineering calculations: load flow, short circuit, grounding, arc flash.
• Develop I/O lists and interface with plant control systems.

HDR is seeking a highly motivated Electrical EIT/Designer to join our power generation electrical/control group. This individual will be a key member of HDR's rapidly growing engineering team and will work under senior engineers to support the following:

• Prepare detailed design packages for new and modifications to existing power generation facilities (Hydro, Solar, Coal, Simple Cycle, and Combined Cycle)
• Detailed design packages can include relay protection upgrades, plant control system upgrades, excitation, governor, and power system upgrades
• Work on projects with clear, specified objectives and limited variables
• Engineering calculation reports such as load flow, short circuit, grounding and arc flash studies
• Major plant equipment specification such as generators, oil-filled and dry-type transformers, medium and low voltage motors, switchgear and motor control centers, PLC and DCS control systems
• Perform cable, raceway and equipment sizing calculations
• Cable and conduit schedules and routing drawings
• Develop Input and Output (I/O) List and interface with the plant control system
• Be involved in design engineering projects from kickoff to project close-out and as-built drawing preparation.
• Become proficient in CAD software such as AutoCAD and MicroStation

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
• Engineer In Training (EIT) certificate. Candidates hired without their EIT will have the title Electrical Designer and will be expected to obtain their EIT for career progression.
• Experience with Power Market Sector design software (examples include ETAP, SKM, AutoCAD, Revit, and MicroStation)

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering
• Computer skills in Microsoft Office
