Job summary

Ampirical is seeking a dependable Field Distribution Specialist III to join our Cappstone Energy Group. This role focuses on electric distribution project design and field support, working on single phase, three phase, and double-circuit extensions or upgrades, with some travel within the state and occasional overnight stays.

You will design layouts, draft construction packages, coordinate with field crews, and ensure compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience in electric distribution design or related utility work.
• Working knowledge of electric distribution systems, equipment, and design practices.
• Proficiency in design/drafting software, GIS, or related tools.
• Ability to perform field work in varying conditions.
• A valid driver’s license is required.
• Advanced understanding of electric distribution systems, NESC requirements and RUS design standards.
• Detail-oriented and thorough in both field data collection and design documentation.
• Excellent project management, organizational, and communication skills.
• Collaborative mindset with strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Commitment to safety, accuracy, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Perform field assessments and collect data for all types of line extensions, and line upgrades.
• Design and draft distribution layouts, ensuring compliance with company standards, engineering specifications, and safety regulations.
• Prepare detailed construction packages including staking sheets and drawings.
• Support senior designers and engineers in higher-complexity designs.
• Coordinate with internal teams and field crews to clarify design intent and resolve construction issues.
• Ensure all work adheres to safety policies, NESC standards, RUS standards (if applicable) and applicable regulations.
• Design and submit required permits for the Department of Transportation, railroad companies, county roads, transmission line encroachments, etc., as needed for your assigned jobs.
• Maintain accurate records and update design systems with project and field data.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement and contribute to team efficiency initiatives.
