Job summary

Insight Global is seeking a skilled Electrical Distribution Design Engineer to collaborate with project managers, engineers, senior designers, and drafters on cost-effective infrastructure solutions. You will coordinate Make Ready designs for utilities, prepare materials lists, permit applications, and review equipment and labor units.

Field inspections, pole loading analyses, and 3rd party clearances will be part of your duties.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent related experience with the design of electrical distribution systems including OTMR, JU design & over lashing.
• Experience with Catapult or other pole loading software.
• 2 years of experience with AutoCAD in telecom and distribution design engineering environment.
• 2 years of experience in the Power Distribution or telecom industry.
• Knowledge with electrical standards including NEC and NESC.
• Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook required.
• Regional travel required, as needed for the job.
• Must have a current valid driver’s license with a clean driving record for up to the past 5 years.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, senior designers, and drafters to deliver cost-effective and high-quality infrastructure solutions.
• Coordinate design of Make Ready projects for a utility, including BOM prep, clearance requests, permit applications, and equipment/labor units.
• Perform field inspections and evaluations of electrical systems for outside plant design.
• Produce detailed design documentation including 3rd party clearances, pole loading analysis, and overhead primary/secondary movements.
• Contribute to and implement design modifications to improve project quality and processes.
• Apply client design standards to aerial pole lines, including pole replacements and telecom moves.
• Provide cost-causing analysis for existing violators.
• Perform post-construction inspections.
