You'll design engineering systems per codes, collaborate across disciplines, manage the design lifecycle, prepare documents with DDS, GIS, and AutoCAD, and obtain permits as required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in engineering ABET-approved.
• EIT certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design engineering systems for overhead and subsurface utility projects per specs and codes.

• Analyze information from surveys, atlas data, field sketches, and datasheets.
• Independently manage time to meet milestones.

About this Role

An Electrical Distribution Associate Graduate Engineer at HBK Engineering is a role designed for recent engineering graduates entering the professional workforce. This entry-level position involves providing contract engineering resources to a local electric and gas utility in Missoula, Montana.

The role supports the company’s expanding efforts to connect new customers to the local utility grid. Additionally, this position provides critical engineering support for existing customers through capacity upgrade projects, system rebuilds, and the relocation of existing utility infrastructure.

What You'll Do

• Design engineering systems in compliance with relevant specifications, codes, and client requirements for overhead and subsurface utility projects.
• Deploy creative and unique solutions to address a wide variety of complex electrical, structural, civil, and construction-related challenges.
• Own all phases of the design lifecycle from initiation through construction completion and project closeout.
• Prepare detailed engineering and construction documents using a variety of software tools including DDS (Distribution Design Studio), GIS systems, Trimble surveying equipment, and client-specific enterprise asset management platforms.
• Analyze information from supplementary data sources including topographical survey, utility atlas information, field sketches, client records, manufacturer equipment datasheets, etc.
• Independently manage time and schedule to achieve project milestones.
• Perform field walkdowns with internal staff, clients, customers, governance authorities, and construction partners.
• Obtain proper permits and easements as required.

What You'll Bring

• An ability to work independently and in interdisciplinary teams.
• Strong technology skills and an understanding of the Office365 suite of tools.
• Working knowledge of 2D CADD software (AutoCAD or similar) including its use to generate layout drawings or other project materials.
• Understanding of remote communication software.
• Ability to come up to speed quickly on in-process projects and hit the ground running.
• Experience collaborating with a team in order to complete a larger project.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• The persistence to see projects through to completion.
• Adaptable to change in a dynamic team environment.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program.
• EIT Certification. (Preferred)
• 0 to 4 years of experience.
