Job summary

The Toro Company seeks an experienced electrical design leader to drive the development of electrical systems across machine families. You will create designs, schematics, and routings, coordinate with multiple engineers, and ensure manufacturability while supporting cost and reliability goals.

You will mentor design teams, de-risk launches through early manufacturability reviews, and collaborate with vendors to secure expert input. Bloomington, MNHQ location offers a strong rewards package.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited technical school for design and drafting (two‑year) with 5+ years in electrical/electronics design.
• Or: BS in engineering related technology with 3+ years in electrical/electronics design.
• Skills: CAD, Performance Analysis, Reading Blueprints/Diagrams, Test Execution, Technical Specification Design.

Responsibilities

• Create designs and layouts for new electrical system concepts and products.
• Prepare electrical schematics and wiring harness drawings and coordinate with project teams.
• Perform basic design calculations for current, voltage, power, temperature, and mounting.
• Coordinate with electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing engineers and vendors.
• Ensure designs are manufacturable and parts are properly released for production.
• Support design reviews, safety reviews, and cost/manufacturing reviews.

Job Purpose:

Provide technical leadership across programs; establish best practices, mentor the design community, and de‑risk launches through early manufacturability and cost optimization.

What Will You Do?

Create designs and design layouts for new electrical system concepts, new electrical products, or improvements to existing electrical products.

• Create engineering design for new and improved electrical routings or products which meet market, safety, quality, performance, reliability, durability requirements of the customer.

• Prepare electrical schematics and wiring harness drawings. Coordinate designs with others assigned to the project to ensure integration of the design into the machine model.

• Responsible for basic design calculations relating to current, voltage, power, temperature, heat buildup, bend radius and mounting locations.

• Secure assistance of consultants or internal specialists, i.e. Electrical, Mechanical and/or Manufacturing engineers and vendor experts.

• Use the best technology available in each and every area of design.

• Support team design reviews, safety reviews and cost and manufacturing reviews.

• Assure that all parts designed are manufacturable.

• Maintain accurate lists of parts created. Coordinate or help to coordinate the release of parts for production whether for prototypes or final production. Components may include solid state devices, switches, sensors, solenoids, actuators and other special assemblies.

• Work with design engineers, manufacturing engineers, test engineers and others to determine changes which are needed to meet customer requirements. Solve harness routing and electrical design problems. Coordinate the required documentation to assure that the changes are implemented on a timely basis.

• Keep supervisor informed of project status and issues that may require assistance.

Related Duties:

• Enter and maintain documentation in SAP
• Use Arcadia to document the system architecture and Creo Cabling to create harness routing
• Assist manufacturing/assembly during prototype, pilot, and production.
• Perform follow‑up on engineering.
• Prepare prototypes to assure needs are met for sales, marketing, manuals, packaging, service, manufacturing and QC reference.
• Document potential patentable ideas.
• Keep informed of new design, manufacturing and materials developments.
• Perform miscellaneous duties as may be requested.

What Do You Need?

• Graduate of an accredited technical school for design and drafting (two‑year course) combined with a minimum of five years of experience in electrical or electronics design. – OR –
• Graduate of an accredited university or college with a Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering related technology (ex. Electrical, Mechanical, Automotive, Manufacturing, or Design) with a minimum of three years of experience in electrical or electronics design.
• Skills/Competencies: Computer Aided Design (CAD); Performance Analysis; Reading Blueprints/Diagrams; Test Execution; Technical Specification Design.
• Demonstrated ability to independently accomplish duties and responsibilities as listed.
• Demonstrated the ability to identify and sort out relevant information.
• Technical ability in math and mechanics preferable.

Other Job-Related Components:

• Responsible as the design leader in the development of the electrical system in various machine families or attachments.
• Able to work independently on problems of moderate scope.
• Travel to test sites, vendors, manufacturing facilities, customers and others, as required.
• May give work direction to electrical technicians, associate designers, and drafters.

• Competitive Salary – The pay range takes into account skills, experience, education, and location. It is not common to be hired at or near the top of the range; compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the annual pay range is between $96,900- $121,000 Cash compensation is one piece of our competitive total rewards package. You may be eligible to participate in an incentive program, which rewards employees based on individual and organizational performance.
