District Overview

Kiewit Engineering Group, Inc is a full-service consulting and engineering firm serving transportation, power, water/wastewater, mining, building, and oil, gas & chemical markets. With over 3,000 professionals and 140 years of experience, we focus on constructability and safety to ensure on-time, on-budget project delivery.

Our Power district specializes in structural, civil, piping, mechanical, process, electrical, instrument, and control disciplines, focusing on EPC delivery for power facilities across North America, including gas-fired generation, power delivery, environmental retrofits, renewables, and water/wastewater projects.

Location

This position is based in our Lenexa, Kansas office. We offer relocation assistance for candidates willing to move to the Lenexa/Kansas City area.

Responsibilities
  • Use SmartPlant3D and other design tools for layout, design, and drafting of electrical equipment and systems for power plants and related facilities, from concept to completion.
  • Size cables and raceways appropriately.
  • Design electrical equipment layouts in buildings, including duct banks, embedded conduits, cable trays, grounding, lighting, and lightning protection systems.
  • Check and navigate 3D models using Navisworks for interferences and constructability.
  • Create cable schedules by routing electrical cables in 3D environments.
  • Calculate conduit fill and cable tray capacities according to NEC standards.
  • Design pull boxes per NEC and state requirements.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision, applying standards correctly.
  • Seek feedback, work efficiently both individually and in teams.
  • Identify scope changes during projects and adjust designs to stay within budget and schedule.
  • Ensure quality and meet customer expectations.
  • Support project development with miscellaneous tasks and participate in meetings as needed.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in electrical design or drafting.
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Drafting/Design preferred; high school diploma with electrical training acceptable.
  • Experience with 2D/3D design software such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, SmartPlant3D, or similar.
  • Proficient in conceptualizing electrical models in 2D/3D; power generation experience preferred, but strong industrial, oil & gas, or chemical plant experience is also acceptable.
  • Ability to work in a team and independently.
  • Strong communication skills in English.
