Qualifications

District Overview

Kiewit Engineering Group, Inc is a full-service consulting and engineering firm serving infrastructure and engineering markets with over 3,000 professionals. Our expertise spans transportation, power, water/wastewater, mining, building, and oil, gas & chemical markets. Our Power district includes structural, civil, piping, mechanical, process, safety, electrical, instrument, and control disciplines, focusing on EPC delivery for power facilities. We offer services like owner's engineering, project development, detailed engineering, construction management, and plant services across North America, including gas-fired generation, power delivery, environmental retrofits, renewables, and water/wastewater projects.

Location

This position is based in our Kiewit Power District Office in Lenexa, Kansas. Relocation assistance is available.

Responsibilities
  • Use SmartPlant3D and other tools for layout, design, and 3D modeling of electrical systems for power plants and related facilities, from concept to completion.
  • Size cables and raceways appropriately.
  • Design electrical equipment layouts, duct banks, embedded conduits, cable trays, grounding, lighting, and lightning protection systems.
  • Check and navigate 3D models in Navisworks for interference and constructability.
  • Route electrical cables in 3D to generate cable schedules.
  • Perform NEC-compliant calculations for conduit fill and cable tray sizing.
  • Size pull boxes according to NEC and regulations.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision, applying standards correctly.
  • Seek and incorporate feedback, working efficiently both individually and in teams.
  • Identify scope changes during projects and adjust designs to stay within budget and schedule.
  • Meet or exceed quality and customer expectations.
  • Support project development with miscellaneous tasks.
  • Participate in project meetings as required.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in electrical design or drafting.
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Drafting/Design preferred; High School or GED with electrical training required.
  • Experience with MicroStation, AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, SmartPlant3D, or similar programs.
  • Experience conceptualizing and modeling electrical systems in 2D/3D, with preference for power generation projects.
  • Ability to work in a team and independently.
  • Strong communication skills in English.
