As an Electrical Designer, you will play a key role in designing and preparing electrical drawings and layouts for control panels and schematic diagrams, supporting both the Panel Shop and field electricians. Responsibilities
- Design and prepare detailed electrical drawings and schematics in AutoCAD for finishing systems projects.
- Develop layouts and designs for control panels, including both interior and exterior components, ensuring accurate fitment and functionality.
- Calculate total load amp current for main control panels and processes using Excel spreadsheets based on motor horsepower.
- Produce 2D AutoCAD drawings and bills of materials using CAD software.
- Review and analyze project specifications, sketches, and related data to inform component design and ensure compliance with requirements.
- Modify and revise designs to address operating deficiencies or reduce production issues.
- Communicate with vendors to requisition commercial items and materials necessary for project completion.
- Collaborate with project managers, controls engineers, supervisors, and field personnel to coordinate design concepts, clarify requirements, and troubleshoot issues.
- Track engineering time and material purchases, comparing against project estimates to ensure efficiency.
- Prepare illustrations and documentation for reference manuals and technical publications related to system operation and maintenance.
- Document and record information, including positioning instructions and comments on drawings.
- Participate in project meetings and field measurements as needed.
- Support miscellaneous engineering projects and tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3-5 years of related experience in electrical design or drafting.
- Vocational school diploma required; Associate degree in Electrical Design, Engineering, or a related technical field preferred.
- 2-4 years of experience in drafting and design, preferably using AutoCAD.
- Strong foundation in electrical theory, circuit design, power systems, and safety regulations.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a collaborative team.
- Strong communication skills for interacting with internal teams, vendors, and customers.
- Attention to detail and ability to analyze technical specifications and drawings.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and processes.
