Job summary

Gaumer Process in Houston seeks an Electrical Designer to create detailed electrical schematics, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams for custom electric process heating systems in the oil and gas industry.

You will design control panels, ensure drawings meet NEC/UL/IEC/API codes, and collaborate with engineers, project managers, and production teams to deliver on schedule from concept through manufacturing.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or equivalent in drafting/design.
  • Experience with nVent Design to Manufacturing (DTM) Software is preferred but training will be provided.
  • Minimum 3-5 years' experience.
  • Strong ability to read drawings, as well as P&ID.
  • Strong knowledge of circuitry and electrical codes.
  • Strong knowledge of UL508A industrial control panel design.
  • Ability to read and understand complex specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Create accurate electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts using nVent DTM Software.
  • Design control panels, motor starters, and power distribution systems for electric process heating equipment.
  • Ensure all drawings meet internal standards and industry codes (NEC, UL, IEC, etc.).
  • Collaborate with document control teams to ensure up-to-date drawing packages are issued to manufacturing and field teams.
  • Generate and maintain detailed Bills of Materials (BOMs) and wire lists from DTM Software.
  • Coordinate with production teams to ensure designs are feasible for in-house manufacturing.
  • Provide redlines and drawing updates during the build process based on feedback from assembly and testing.
  • Ensure all designs adhere to applicable electrical codes and standards such as NEC, UL 508A, CSA, IEC Ex, and API.
  • Incorporate labeling and layout requirements for industrial control panels used in hazardous (classified) areas.
  • Work closely with project engineers, mechanical designers, and production managers to ensure alignment between electrical designs and overall system layouts.
  • Participate in project kickoff meetings, design reviews, and customer specification reviews.
  • Support the development and continuous improvement of nVent DTM libraries, templates, symbols, and standard drawing packages.
  • Contribute to process optimization by automating repetitive CAD tasks and suggesting design workflow improvements.

At Gaumer Process, the Electrical Designer plays a key role in the design and development of custom electric process heating systems for the oil and gas industry. This position is responsible for creating detailed electrical schematics, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams that meet industry codes, client specifications, and internal engineering standards. The Electrical Designer ensures that all designs support safe, efficient, and reliable operation of heating equipment in harsh and hazardous environments. Working closely with engineers, project managers, and production teams, the designer contributes to timely and accurate project execution from concept through manufacturing.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience with nVent Design to Manufacturing (DTM) Software is preferred but not required. Gaumer Process will provide nVent DTM training to qualified candidates.
