Job summary

Actalent is hiring an Electrical Designer to create and modify electrical schematics for turnkey power generation projects. You will work with engineers, PMs, and cross-functional teams to ensure accurate, compliant drawings for medium/low voltage systems and controls.

Role requires extensive drafting experience, AutoCAD Electrical expertise, and NEC knowledge. Occasional field work and up to 30% travel within Texas are expected.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of drafting experience focused on electrical design or electrical schematics.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience using AutoCAD Electrical in a 2D environment.
  • 3+ years of experience with medium voltage, low voltage, power generation systems, and controls.
  • 2+ years of installation or troubleshooting of industrial automation equipment.
  • Strong proficiency in electrical design and drafting with clear schematics and documentation.
  • Working knowledge of NEC and other electrical codes and standards.
  • Experience with 148 kV and 480 kV equipment is preferred.
  • Ability to troubleshoot using oscilloscopes and test equipment.
  • Familiarity with CAD best practices for electrical design.
  • Ability to collaborate with engineers, PMs, and cross-functional teams.

Job Description

Responsibilities
  • Create and modify detailed electrical and electronic schematics using AutoCAD Electrical in support of turnkey power generation projects.
  • Partner with engineers, project managers, and cross-functional teams to develop accurate, complete, and clearly documented schematics for power systems and controls.
  • Ensure all electrical designs comply with applicable industry standards, including the National Electric Code (NEC) and other relevant codes and standards.
  • Conduct quality reviews of schematics to verify accuracy, completeness, and consistency with project requirements and regulatory guidelines.
  • Maintain organized, up-to-date documentation of all schematics, drawings, revisions, and related records throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Continuously develop and refine technical skills, with a focus on AutoCAD Electrical, drafting best practices, and emerging standards in electrical design.
  • Support the instrumentation and controls (I&C) team by producing lab equipment drawings and documentation needed for installation and testing activities.
  • Assist with installation and testing of electrical and industrial automation equipment, including interpreting schematics and resolving design-related issues in the field.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to develop detailed technical specifications for power generation systems, medium and low voltage equipment, and associated controls.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and electronic systems using tools such as oscilloscopes and other test equipment, and update drawings and documentation based on findings.
  • Work with switchgear and substation-related designs as needed, particularly for systems involving 148 kV and 480 kV equipment.
  • Travel to client sites, primarily within Texas, to support field verification, installation support, testing, and coordination of design-related activities.

  • Experience supporting instrumentation and controls (I&C) teams with lab equipment drawings and testing documentation.
  • Ability to adapt to changing project requirements and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to identify and resolve design and field issues efficiently.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 30% of the time to client sites, primarily within Texas.
  • Comfort working on both office‑based design tasks and field‑based installation and testing support.
Work Environment

This is a full‑time, on‑site role with a standard schedule of Monday through Friday, approximately 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Work is primarily performed in an office environment using AutoCAD Electrical and other design tools, with regular collaboration alongside engineers, project managers, and I&C teams. The position requires up to 30% travel to client sites, mostly within Texas, to support installation, testing, and field verification of designs. The office is expected to relocate to a city center location in 2027, and the role will continue to be based on‑site Monday through Friday. The work involves exposure to power generation, medium and low voltage systems, and industrial automation equipment in both office and field settings.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $120000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job‑related factors.

Candidates have opportunity to earn bonus based on perofrmance metrics hit
