Job summary

Knobelsdorff (KE) seeks an Electrical Designer to bridge Estimation and Operations on design-build projects nationwide. You will work with estimators, pre-construction and project managers through design to hand-off to operations.

You will size conduits for MCCs, switchgear, transformers, and MV distribution, review BOMs, and support design reviews with the KE-Way methodology. Proficiency with BlueBeam, Revit, AutoCAD, and Procore is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Journeyman Electrician's License or equivalent, and a degree in Project Management, Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience with electrical/automation construction practices or industrial electrical work.
  • Knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC).
  • Ability to manage and organize project files, drawings, and documents in a project system.
  • Familiar with motor control devices such as VFDs, Soft Starts, Networked MCCs.

Responsibilities

  • Verify vendor quotes and prepare submittal packages.
  • Participate in customer design review meetings and presentations.
  • Assist in leading engineering efforts to ensure design matches KE-Way concepts.
  • Develop conceptual engineering and designs for conduits/cables to serve electrical equipment (MCCs, Switchboards, Panelboards, Transformers).
  • Analyze MCC and Switchgear BOMs and quotes for sizing, layouts, and protection types.
  • Create conduit/cable schedules for motors, controls, instrumentation, and medium voltage distribution.
  • Bridge between estimating and operations from concept to reality.

As an Electrical Designer you are the bridge between Estimation and Operations. The Electrical Designer will work with our Estimators, Pre-Construction Team, Drafters, and Project Managers throughout the design phase until it is ready to hand off to our Operations team. KE performs Design Build projects, nationwide, in a variety of industries including but not limited to Biodiesel & Ethanol production facilities, Grain storage, Fertilizer Terminals, Feed & Flour Mills, Dairy Processing plants, and Cement/Aggregate plants.

What You'll Do:

You’ll be part of a team that gets things done, works with purpose, and takes pride in the results. Your day-to-day responsibilities may include:

  • Verify vendor quotes and provide submittal packages
  • Participate in customer/client design review meetings and presentations
  • Assist in leading/managing engineering needs to ensure final product matches the KE-Way design
  • Complete conceptual engineering and or design for the following
    • Sizing conduit/cable to serve electrical equipment such as MCC’s, Switchboards, Panelboards, and Transformers
  • Comprehend MCC BOM’s and quotes to ensure that sizing, layouts, and controller types are accurate
  • Comprehend Switchgear BOM’s and quotes to ensure that sizing, layouts, and over current protection types are correct
  • Build conduit cable schedules to serve
    • Motors, Controls and instrumentation devices
    • Branch Circuiting
    • Medium Voltage Distribution systems such as
      • Vacuum Fault Interrupters
      • Metal Clad MV Switchgear
      • MV transformers
      • Various MV Cable Types and terminations
  • Act as a bridge from estimating to operations or concept to reality

You’re someone who wants to learn, grow, and contribute to designing electrical infrastructure. Successful candidates typically bring:

  • Experience with BlueBeam, Revit, AutoCAD, and Procore
  • A knowledge of electrical and or automation construction practices or industrial electrical work.
  • Knowledge of the National Electric Code - NEC
  • Manage project files, drawings, documents & records in our project system
  • Journeyman Electricians License, a degree in Project Management, Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or related, or equivalent combination of field experience/education
  • Knowledge of motor control devices such as VFD’s, Soft Starts, Networked MCC’s, and traditional across the line starters
  • Experience with Special systems such as
    • Network cabling
    • Instrumentation
    • Fire Alarm
    • Door access/Security systems

The salary range for this position is $110,000 - $130,000 per year, which reflects a good-faith estimate based on market data and internal equity.
