Job summary

University of Illinois seeks an Electrical Engineer for Engineering Services (Design Review) within Facilities and Services in Urbana-Champaign. The position is 100% full-time Academic Professional, with a start as soon as possible after 9/21/2026 and a salary range of $100,000–$117,500. Sponsorship is not available for work authorization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Illinois.
• In-depth (5+ years) progressively responsible administrative experience in engineering design of electrical systems, lighting, fire alarm, and related fire safety systems.
• Demonstrated knowledge of building systems, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and/or building automation and/or control systems.

Responsibilities

• Provide troubleshooting expertise for electrical, lighting, and fire alarm systems; identify problems and propose corrective work with scope and probable costs.
• Prepare detailed design documents (drawings and specifications) for remodeling, renovation, repair, or new work.
• Provide detailed engineering analysis of electrical and lighting systems.
• Review projects designed by PSCs and in-house designers; write review comments for code/standards non-compliance.
• Attend meetings and participate in discussions related to review comments.
• Provide technical review and opinions on variance requests for projects.
