Job summary

Collins Aerospace seeks an early career Electrical Design Engineer to support CNS traffic surveillance hardware development in Melbourne, FL. You will help advance legacy and next-generation avionics products, influence architecture and reliability, and collaborate across internal teams, suppliers, and customers.

The role requires a STEM degree with <2 years of related experience, U.S. Person status, and experience with LT Spice/HyperLynx, lab equipment, and schematic/PCB design. Onsite work in Melbourne, Florida is expected.

Qualifications

  • Typically requires a STEM degree with less than 2 years of relevant experience.
  • U.S. Person status required for military contract.
  • Experience with LT Spice, HyperLynx or similar simulation tools.
  • Experience using lab test equipment (oscilloscopes, pattern generators, power supplies, spectrum analyzers).
  • Familiarity with aerospace avionics, embedded processors or FPGAs, RF design, and simulation/analysis tools (MATLAB/Simulink).
  • Proficiency with schematic capture and layout tools (e.g., Mentor Graphics).

Responsibilities

  • Develop and analyze electrical hardware requirements for CNS programs.
  • Provide design support for CNS sustainment and participate in new product development.
  • Manage component obsolescence identification and mitigation.
  • Analyze circuit performance using LT Spice, HyperLynx, and other tools.
  • Design, debug, and test digital and mixed-signal circuits.
  • Create schematics, oversee PCB layouts, and support drawing development.
  • Conduct electrical tests using common lab equipment and develop verification test plans.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, industrial, and manufacturing teams to ensure testability and robust designs.

Collins Aerospace is seeking an early career Electrical Design Engineer to support the traffic surveillance hardware development group. This role will be to help advance both legacy and next‑generation CNS aviation products. In this role, you will directly influence the architecture, performance, and reliability of systems operating in some of the most demanding environments in aerospace. The ideal candidate is self-driven, detail‑oriented, and brings excellent communication skills along with a proven ability to collaborate effectively across multifunctional and multidisciplinary teams. Success in this position requires strong technical curiosity, flexibility, and the ability to coordinate seamlessly with internal teams, suppliers, and customers to achieve shared program goals. Applicant must have knowledge of the principles and techniques commonly used in electrical development engineering.

This is an onsite position in Melbourne, Florida.

What you will do:

  • Develop and analyze electrical hardware requirements.
  • Provide design and engineering support for CNS sustainment products, with opportunities to contribute to new product development.
  • Managing component obsolescence identification and mitigation.
  • Analyze circuit performance using circuit simulation tools like LT Spice or HyperLynx.
  • Design, debug, and test Digital and/or mixed signal Circuits.
  • Develop schematics, oversee PCB layouts, and support design drawing development.
  • Participate in the build, debug, and test of electrical circuit designs.
  • Conduct electrical tests using common lab test equipment.
  • Develop verification test plans and procedures to ensure the developed product meets the specified requirements.
  • Collaborate with Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, and Manufacturing to ensure robust designs and appropriate testability.
  • Support product certification activities.

Qualifications you must have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and less than 2 years prior relevant experience
  • Must be a U.S. Person – Military contract stipulates the candidates must be U.S. Persons.
  • Experience with common simulation platforms such as LT Spice, HyperLynx, etc.
  • Experience with major types of lab test equipment (O-scopes, pattern generators, power supplies, spectrum analyzers, etc.)

Qualifications we prefer:

  • Familiarity with avionics.
  • Experience working with embedded processors or FPGAs.
  • Experience with RF designs.
  • Experience with requirements development.
  • Familiarity with simulation & analysis tools (e.g. MATLAB, Simulink)
  • Experience with Schematic capture and layout tools, such as Mentor Graphics DX Designer.

The salary range for this role is 57,200 USD - 108,800 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
