Electrical Design Engineer – Engraving Solutions
Our Pittsburgh office, located in Cranberry, PA, is looking for an Electrical Design Engineer for our Engraving Solutions business, which sells through our Brady and Gravotech brands.
The position is responsible for the design and implementation of electrical and panel layouts for the Brady Custom Solutions engraving machines. The Electrical Design Engineer will leverage expertise in creating electrical schematics, designing and constructing prototypes, and validating products by performing various electrical tests. They will support the Engraving Solutions business through the entire product development lifecycle – from concept and design to testing, production, and ongoing support.
This is an on‑site role at our Cranberry, PA office.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead the end‑to‑end electrical design process for customized Laser and Dot Peen marking systems, developing comprehensive schematic and panel layout packages using advanced features in AutoCAD Electrical.
- Select, evaluate, and specify critical electrical components (e.g., circuit breakers, relays, sensors, power supplies) to optimize system performance, reliability, and cost‑effectiveness.
- Produce and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and supporting technical documentation throughout the product lifecycle.
- Develop, test, and implement robust automation programs for customized systems, primarily utilizing Rockwell Allen‑Bradley PLCs and associated programming software.
- Collaborate within the custom solution engineering team to ensure design meets project specifications and seamlessly integrates with mechanical and software components.
- Provide expert technical support during system build, testing, and commissioning, occasionally traveling (approx. 10%) to customer sites for inspections, installations, and start‑ups.
What You Will Need To Be Successful
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience.
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical and the AutoDesk Suite.
- Experience in the Allen‑Bradley Suite.
- Familiarity with applicable codes and standards such as NEC, NFPA 79, UL508a.
- Read and create electrical schematics using NFPA and IEC standards.
- Attention to detail, organization, and problem‑solving skills.
- Working knowledge of SAP and Arena (PLM), Vault, AutomationDirect, or similar software.
- Experience with Vision and Robot programming, networking, and common industrial protocols (EtherNet/IP and PROFINET).
