Job summary

Rite-Hite, a global leader in loading dock and door equipment, is seeking an Electrical Engineer to design and support electrical systems for custom orders and existing products. You will work with customers and internal teams to define requirements, create documentation, and drive engineering changes while ensuring compliance with safety and industry standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field required.
  • Two+ years of experience in electrical design and control systems.
  • Experience interpreting electrical schematics, BOMs, and engineering documentation.
  • Ability to analyze problems and communicate recommendations to stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with customers and cross-functional teams to develop electrical solutions for custom orders, including requirements definition, design, documentation, and order support.
  • Provide electrical engineering support for existing products, including production issues and field concerns.
  • Develop and process engineering changes with proper documentation and revision control.
  • Develop, modify, and document electrical control systems to meet product and manufacturing requirements.
  • Participate in new product development projects with design, prototyping, and validation activities.
  • Support product lifecycle by addressing obsolescence and implementing improvements.
  • Ensure designs comply with UL 507, UL 508A, NFPA 70 and related standards.
  • Develop design-validation, production-test, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Select and specify electrical components based on performance, reliability, cost, and standards.
  • Maintain engineering files and documentation per change-management and MRP requirements.
  • Serve as electrical engineering resource to manufacturing, purchasing, applications, service, and other teams.
  • Work with suppliers to evaluate components and develop purchasing specs.
  • Identify improvements to engineering processes and tools.

Job Description
Purpose and Scope

Perform electrical engineering design and support activities for custom-engineered orders, existing products, and new product development. Develop, modify, analyze, document, and validate electrical systems and controls to meet customer, product, manufacturing, regulatory, and business requirements.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with customers and cross-functional teams to develop electrical solutions for custom-engineered orders, including requirements definition, design, documentation, technical review, and order support.
  • Provide electrical engineering support for existing products, including production issues, customer and field concerns, component substitutions, product improvements, and root-cause investigation.
  • Develop and process engineering changes, ensuring electrical designs, drawings, bills of material, specifications, and related documentation remain accurate and properly controlled.
  • Develop, modify, and document electrical control systems to meet product, customer, manufacturing, cost, and performance requirements.
  • Participate in new product development projects by completing assigned design, analysis, documentation, prototyping, and validation activities.
  • Support the product lifecycle by addressing component obsolescence, evaluating replacement components, and implementing product improvements.
  • Ensure electrical designs comply with applicable electrical, machine-safety, and product standards, including UL 507, UL 508A, NFPA 70, and other relevant requirements.
  • Develop and execute design-validation, production-test, and troubleshooting procedures appropriate to the product or application.
  • Select and specify electrical components based on performance, reliability, availability, cost, regulatory requirements, and established engineering practices.
  • Maintain engineering files and product documentation in accordance with revision-control, change-management, and MRP-system requirements.
  • Serve as an electrical engineering resource to manufacturing, purchasing, applications, service, and other internal teams.
  • Work directly with suppliers to evaluate components, resolve technical issues, and develop appropriate purchasing and performance specifications.
  • Identify and implement improvements to engineering processes, documentation, and tools that improve quality, consistency, and development efficiency.
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, and other team members, sharing technical knowledge and providing guidance where appropriate.
Knowledge And Skills Requirements
REQUIRED EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, engineering physics, electromechanical engineering, controls engineering, automation engineering, or a related field required.
  • Two or more years of relevant experience in electrical design, control systems, engineered-to-order products, product support, sustaining engineering, or a related field. Two or more years of experience with relay systems, including the ability to understand, troubleshoot, and work with relay-based electrical components.
  • Experience interpreting and developing electrical schematics, technical specifications, bills of material, and engineering documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze technical problems, develop practical solutions, and communicate recommendations to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience supporting custom-engineered or configured-to-order products.
  • Experience with industrial electrical control systems, electromechanical systems, motor controls, sensors, relays, contactors, programmable controllers, or solid-state control devices.
  • Familiarity with applicable electrical, product-safety, and machine-safety standards, including UL 507, UL 508A, NFPA 70, or similar standards.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing, troubleshooting production or field issues, and conducting root-cause investigations.
  • Experience creating and processing engineering changes, including updates to drawings, bills of material, specifications, and related product documentation.
  • Familiarity with engineering change-management, product-lifecycle-management, and material requirements planning
  • Familiarity with embedded control systems and collaboration with firmware or software developers
