Job summary

Cypress HCM is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to design electrical systems, control panels, and documentation for standard and custom industrial equipment. This hands-on role emphasizes working with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, compliant solutions.

You will develop PLC-based controls and HMIs, create schematics and wiring diagrams, and support testing, maintenance, and continuous improvement initiatives. 2+ years experience and a technical degree are expected.

Job description

This is an exciting opportunity to join an established and growing manufacturer of industrial process equipment as an Electrical Design Engineer. This hands-on engineering opportunity is responsible for developing electrical systems, controls, and documentation for standard and custom equipment used in a variety of industrial applications.

The Electrical Design Engineer will play a key role in researching and implementing new technologies, improving existing product designs, and supporting the full product lifecycle. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with engineering, manufacturing, sales, purchasing, and service teams in a collaborative environment with a wide variety of technical responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Design complete electrical systems, including power distribution, motor starters, safety devices, sensors, and control systems, in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and customer requirements.


• Research and evaluate the latest technologies in programmable controls, HMIs, VFDs, electromechanical devices, sensors, and switches to develop effective solutions for industrial equipment.


• Prepare electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and electrical enclosure layouts using CAD and electrical design software.


• Develop and implement electrical testing plans to verify product functionality, safety, and performance.


• Establish and maintain electrical design standards for drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.


• Develop and maintain bills of materials and electrical documentation for standard and custom product designs.


• Provide engineering and manufacturing support during equipment assembly, testing, and production.


• Support product maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives.


• Collaborate with customers and sales teams to ensure electrical systems and equipment meet performance, quality, and application requirements.


• Identify and implement opportunities for cost reduction, product enhancements, and design optimization.


• Provide technical support to Sales, Purchasing, Service, and other internal departments.


• Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to evaluate components, resolve technical issues, and support product development.


• Program and modify PLC-based controls and HMIs for standard and custom equipment to meet customer and market specifications.

Requirements And Desired Experience

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in electrical engineering, electrical design, controls engineering, or a similar technical discipline.


• Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related technical field.


• Working knowledge of applicable electrical codes and standards, including NEC, UL, CSA, ESA, and CE requirements.


• Experience designing electrical systems involving power distribution, motor control, sensors, safety circuits, and industrial automation.


• Familiarity with electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, control panels, and CAD-based design documentation.


• Experience with PLC programming, HMI development, VFDs, and industrial control systems preferred.


• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting capabilities.


• Ability to communicate complex engineering concepts effectively to customers, sales teams, and cross-functional stakeholders.


• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.


• Creative and practical approach to engineering design and technical problem-solving.


• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.


• Ability to work collaboratively in a small-team engineering and manufacturing environment.


• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Compensation (DOE): $90k-120k
