Job summary

ProTech seeks an Electrical Controls Engineer to design electrical controls for industrial machinery, develop schematics and wiring diagrams, and program PLC/HMI systems. You will prepare quotations, define performance requirements, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver optimized solutions.

You will also coordinate demonstrations, train customers and internal staff, and ensure compliance with specifications and timelines throughout the project lifecycle.

Job description

Summary: Plans, designs, and coordinates the application of the company products and services to fit customer requirements. Designs, generates, and maintains electrical drawings, bills of materials, etc., for use in the manufacturing of products and systems.

Job Duties

• Prepares detailed quotations for product, services, and engineering requirements to be used in developing a formal quote for customer.
• Develops and writes equipment specifications, performance requirements, cost analysis, and proposals for developing new or improved products that would add to the value of the product line or serve the target market.
• Develops models of alternate processing methods to test feasibility of new applications of system components and recommends implementation of improved procedures.
• Demonstrates complete knowledge of the organization’s products and policies.
• Demonstrates specialized knowledge of the target market, customers, competition, etc.
• Communicates directly with new and existing customers to explain features and merits of products offered.
• Demonstrates products and provides assistance in the best application of products and services.
• Confers with workers in other departments, such as marketing, legal, and engineering, to provide technical information.
• Works with sales and marketing department to keep account activities and literature up to date.
• Participates in meetings, seminars, and training sessions to stay apprised of new developments in field.
• Prepares reports of business transactions and keeps expense accounts.
• Develops and conducts training programs on the safe operations of the equipment, and demonstrates skills to trainees, including both team members and customers.
• Coordinates presale demonstrations and trade show exhibitions including procurement of equipment, set-up, demonstration, and discussion with potential customers.
• Investigates product/service warranty claims to ensure resolution within organizational policies.
• Directs the Customer Service group to respond to customer inquiries, requests, complaints, order status in a prompt, courteous, and effective manner
• Follows progress of work; anticipates or investigates delays and inadequate performance. *Takes corrective action as necessary.
• Recommends cost-cutting measures and design improvements. *Coordinates multiple projects to completion utilizing project management skills.
• Works with customers, sales, production, engineering, and other areas to determine requirements.
• Works from discussions, sketches, prints, etc., to visualize product; determines and lays out materials to ensure process, configuration, space, safety, and other requirements are considered; provides necessary documentation.
• Prepares Control Systems drawings for Custom Conveyor Systems, including Wiring Diagrams and Panel Layout diagrams, for customer approval.
• Uses drafting techniques and computer-aided equipment to prepare electrical detail drawings and wiring diagrams for necessary views, dimensions, materials, and other related data; made calculations for bills of materials and other specifications.
• Prepares PLC / HMI programs that ensure the proper function of Control Systems for Custom Conveyor Systems; installs and tests the proper function of the PLC / HMI programs before shipping.
• Confers with other engineering personnel and prepares design modifications as required.
• Works with customers and vendors regarding technical issues; ensures adherence to customer specifications, delivery, regulatory compliance, etc.
• Works with manufacturing regarding processes and electrical problems. Makes recommendations regarding material usage, etc.

Qualifications

• Experience designing electrical controls for industrial machinery using motor starters, relays, limit switches, push buttons, etc.
• Experience creating and editing electrical schematics and wiring diagrams, preferably using AutoCAD Electrical.
