Job Title: Electrical Controls Technician

Job Description

This field-based Electrical Controls Technician role supports the Southwest Houston territory, traveling to customer sites to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electrical control systems for water wells, water plants, and wastewater facilities. You will install and service control panels, VFDs, instrumentation, and PLC/SCADA-related equipment while working independently in the field and interacting professionally with customers. A company truck is provided, and the position offers consistent full-time hours with opportunities for overtime.

Responsibilities
  • Travel to customer sites throughout the Southwest Houston area to troubleshoot and repair electrical control systems for water wells, water plants, lift stations, and wastewater facilities.
  • Diagnose issues in control panels, wiring, instrumentation, and field communications using strong electrical troubleshooting techniques.
  • Perform safe and accurate electrical work, including conduit installation, wiring terminations, and circuit testing.
  • Install new electrical control panels, variable frequency drives (VFDs), transmitters, and flowmeters according to specifications and electrical schematics.
  • Assist with the installation, maintenance, and support of PLC and SCADA-related equipment and associated networking technologies.
  • Perform electrical panel installation and conduit bending as needed for new and existing systems.
  • Use basic IT cabling skills to support control and communication networks within water and wastewater facilities.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams to plan and complete work accurately.
  • Document all work performed using company mobile applications or software, ensuring accurate and timely records.
  • Interface with customers on-site in a professional and courteous manner, clearly explaining work performed and system status.
  • Maintain the company vehicle, tools, and equipment in a clean, safe, and professional condition.
  • Respond to occasional after-hours service calls as needed to support customer operations.
  • Work safely around pumps, lift stations, wells, and water plants, including climbing, lifting, and working in varying weather conditions.
  • Collaborate with internal teams as needed during occasional office-based mornings while remaining primarily field-focused.
Essential Skills
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting electrical control panels in field environments.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Proficiency in electrical troubleshooting for control panels, wiring, instrumentation, and field communications.
  • Experience with control panel wiring, including terminations and circuit testing.
  • Ability to perform conduit work and conduit bending safely and accurately.
  • Experience with variable frequency drives (VFDs), including installation and basic troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of instrumentation and controls, including transmitters and flowmeters.
  • Familiarity with PLC maintenance and SCADA systems in industrial or utility settings.
  • Basic understanding of networking technologies related to control and automation systems.
  • Basic IT cabling experience for control and communication systems.
  • Experience with electrical panel installation in industrial or utility environments.
  • Ability to document work using mobile apps or software, with training provided as needed.
  • Capability to lift, climb, and work safely around pumps, lift stations, wells, and water plants.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to interact with customers professionally.
  • Comfort working independently in the field with minimal supervision.

  • Background in field service or industrial maintenance environments.
  • Exposure to advanced control systems, automation, and SCADA platforms.

Work Environment

The position is largely field-based and requires working in varying weather conditions and around pumps and other mechanical equipment. The role follows a hybrid structure, with occasional office time 12 mornings per week, and the remainder spent in the field. A company truck is provided for travel to customer sites, and the work environment emphasizes independent field work combined with regular customer interaction. Occasional after-hours service calls may be required to support critical operations.

This is a Permanent position based out of Edna, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $62400.00 - $72800.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
