Job summary

Gilder Search Group is recruiting for an Electrical Controls Technician for a 3rd shift (11:00 PM - 7:00 AM) in Northwest Ohio. This role supports high-speed automated machinery, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance to maximize uptime.

Ideal candidate has 3+ years in industrial electrical maintenance, experience with PLCs, AC/DC drives, HMIs, and safety standards. Training on first shift for up to 6 months; shift differential and bonus potential included.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of hands-on industrial electrical and controls maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Solid working knowledge of PLCs, AC/DC drives, motion control systems, and HMIs
  • Read electrical schematics and ladder logic; interpret manuals to diagnose issues
  • Familiarity with NFPA 70E electrical safety standards and LOTO procedures
  • Technical diploma/Associate degree or completed electrician apprenticeship preferred

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical faults on high-speed manufacturing equipment, including motors, relays, switches, and sensors
  • Provide online support and real-time response to active production line calls during assigned shifts
  • Perform and document preventive maintenance (PM) routines on production machinery
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and manuals to diagnose issues
  • Install, troubleshoot, adjust, and repair VFDs, motion control, and temperature control loops
  • Connect to, diagnose, and repair PLC and HMI control equipment using Allen-Bradley tools
  • Log all work order details, repair actions, and parts usage into CMMS
  • Adhere to LOTO procedures and NFPA 70E safety standards
  • Communicate equipment status and root-cause findings to engineering and plant leadership

Electrical Controls Technician

Shift: 3rd Shift (11:00 PM - 7:00 AM; candidates will complete initial training on 1st Shift for up to 6 months)

Salary: Competitive hourly rate dependent on experience, plus shift differential and performance-based bonus potential

Electrical Controls Technician Role

The Electrical Controls Technician provides critical technical support to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair advanced high-speed automated machinery and industrial control systems. This role exists to ensure maximum equipment uptime, maintain continuous shift operations, and drive problem-solving across complex electrical and controls architecture.

Electrical Controls Technician Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical faults on high-speed manufacturing equipment, including motors, relays, switches, and sensors
  • Provide online support and real-time response to active production line calls during assigned shifts
  • Perform and document preventive maintenance (PM) routines on production machinery per established schedules
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical equipment manuals to diagnose issues
  • Install, troubleshoot, adjust, and repair variable frequency drives (VFDs), motion control systems, and temperature control loops
  • Connect to, diagnose, and repair PLC and HMI control equipment using Allen-Bradley software tools
  • Execute facilities-related electrical maintenance, work orders, and plant improvement tasks during designated downtime
  • Adhere strictly to LOTO procedures and NFPA 70E electrical safety standards during all technical tasks
  • Log all work order details, repair actions, and parts usage into the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
  • Communicate equipment status, root-cause findings, and handoffs clearly to engineering and plant leadership

  • Reports To: Electrical Engineering Manager

About You
  • Possess 3 or more years of hands-on industrial electrical and controls maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrate a solid working knowledge of PLCs, AC/DC drives, motion control systems, and HMIs
  • Maintain strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills with the ability to work independently on off-shifts
  • Display a self-taught, inquisitive mindset with the drive to read manuals and independently figure out complex automated systems
  • Demonstrate strong understanding of electrical schematics, ladder logic, and basic industrial number systems (binary, octal, decimal)
  • Maintain LOTO qualification and familiarity with NFPA 70E electrical safety requirements
  • Possess hands-on experience using CMMS software to track work orders and preventive maintenance tasks
  • Hold a technical diploma, Associate degree, or completed electrician apprenticeship (preferred)
  • Hold familiarity with Allen-Bradley control systems and software suites (preferred)
