Position Summary:

Under general supervision, the candidate will support Warn Industries’ electrical, automation and control needs through participating in the design and development of electrical and programmable controls in manufacturing equipment. Apply, install, program and support software that contributes to the advancement of state-of-the-art manufacturing. Install, repair, replace and maintain electrical equipment, PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems. Troubleshoot control system issues, that result in production downtime. Assist in designing and maintaining automated manufacturing processes, research new controls or automation opportunities and be willing to train others. Lead the organization in developmental strategies for improved automation, standardization of equipment and systems that monitor and improve processes in production.

Essential Functions:

  1. Participate in design and implementation of manufacturing equipment, tooling and processes that require a broad theoretical understanding and application of the physical sciences. Evolve equipment design to improve quality, cost and reliability.
  2. Contribute to the advancement of state-of-the-art manufacturing technology. Active involvement with the transition of products and manufacturing processes from prototype stage into full production.
  3. Design electrical and automation systems, utilizing PLCs, motion controls, servo/micro stepping motors, VFD, robotics, HMI & SCADA.
  4. Identify and implement process monitoring/controls utilizing actuators, transducers, analog/digital measurements, and interfacing.
  5. Implement machine monitoring, data logging and data processing in a networking environment.
  6. Analyze new product designs, assemblies and components to improve product reliability and quality and to ensure compatibility with manufacturing processes and cost objectives.
  7. Employing multiple PLC programming with knowledge of Siemens, GE (Emerson), Allen Bradley, Automation Direct, and having experience with LabVIEW (not required) is a plus.
  8. Troubleshoot and repair electrical and/or electro-mechanical equipment and subsystems to isolate the malfunction,
  9. Disassembly and repair/replacement of electrical and electronic parts and components to include wiring, controllers, switches, motors, PLCs, circuit boards, relays, enclosures, etc.
  10. Ability to read and generate documentation including electrical and pneumatic schematics, trouble-shooting guides, and service manuals.
  11. Troubleshoot, research and identify causes of technical manufacturing equipment problems. Define and implement a permanent solution.
  12. Provide required training to operators/maintenance crew.
  13. Establish standardization of control systems.
  14. Assemble and install electrical, mechanical, and electro-mechanical equipment and systems such as production machinery / fixtures.
  15. Knowledge and use of hand and power tools and machines to perform duties.
  16. Utilize CMMS (computerized maintenance management system) to review work requests for electrical repairs and maintenance, determine nature of problem and recommend appropriate solution and document actions.
  17. Participate in team meetings as required (safety, problem-solving, etc.).
  18. Work safely and adhere to Warn’s Policies and Procedures in all aspects of daily duties and responsibilities.
  19. Accountable for developing and monitoring processes and practices necessary for legal and ethical compliance in assigned areas.
  20. Ability to calculate fault current for new and existing facility equipment and adherence to Arc Flash Compliance.
  21. Perform assigned work in compliance with Electric Code, NFPA 70
  22. Responsible for prompt and regular attendance as scheduled.
  23. In conjunction with onsite Electricians, maintain electrical log of new construction work performed.
  24. May participate in Warn Industries’ candidate selection process.

Minimum Education and/or Experience:

  1. Minimum of three years of successful control systems design and implementation, preferably in manufacturing.
  2. Minimum 2-year associate’s degree with electrical manufacturing emphasis or comparable work experience.
  3. State of Oregon Electrical License, or the ability to obtain one is .

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Ability to use a variety of PLC programming .
  2. Ability to use and understand motion control systems, servo/micro stepping motors and robotics.
  3. Capable of designing and implementing HMI and interfacing with control hardware.
  4. Ability to implement analog transducers to interface digital control systems.
  5. Ability to implement data logging and control data processes.
  6. Ability to troubleshoot and repair production and facility equipment is required.
  7. Ability to size and program VFD’s, Soft Starters and motor control hardware.
  8. Ability to read, and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, assembly drawings, and wire diagrams.
  9. Must have thorough knowledge and understanding of pertinent local, state and codes.
  10. Adaptive to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  11. Strong written, oral communication and computation skills.
  12. Ability to continuously improve and learn new technologies and skills.
  13. Ability to maintain and troubleshoot controls for wastewater processing equipment, monitoring, and reporting systems.
  14. Possess good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  15. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  16. Be willing to shift their work schedule to meet production requirements.
  17. Ability to work collaboratively and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, customers and visitors.
  18. Ability to network multiple workstations and machines together for machine cell integration.
  19. Effectively problem-solve and lead problem-solving efforts as necessary.
  20. Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.
  21. Must have a history of impeccable integrity, ethics and fair play.

Skills:

Ability to read, write, verbalize and comprehend instructions and correspondence in English. An ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations to team members and customers as job duties require. Conflict resolution skills. Good interpersonal skills.

Mathematical Skills:

Must have basic computation skills equivalent to education requirement. Higher skills may be required depending on actual job duties.

Physical and Visual Activities:

Standing, walking, sitting, lifting, carrying, balancing, stooping, reaching, handling, feeling, acuity-far, acuity-near, depth perception and field of vision. Ability to see a full spectrum. Frequently communicate with employees and customers. Must be able to exchange accurate information. Frequently move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, attend meetings, etc. Constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine and printer.

Physical Demands:

May require a combination of sitting, standing, and walking. May require lifting to 50 pounds with assistance.

Environment/Atmospheric Conditions:

Some of the job duties are performed in a shop environment with exposure to loud operating machinery, cold and hot temperatures, chemicals, and vapors. The team member is also required to work in an office environment.

Machines, Tools, Equipment, Software:

Hand and power tools, electrical meters and tools, ladders, lifts, etc. Personal computer, PLC programming experience preferably with Siemens, GE, and Allen Bradley; LabView Data Acquisition software (not required).
