Job summary

Higher Recruitment, Inc. is assisting a growing Wisconsin-based manufacturing client in recruiting an Electrical Controls Engineer to support production operations and drive improvements in machine controls.

You will troubleshoot control problems, collaborate with external resources, develop safe procedures, and manage equipment upgrade projects from investigation through start-up, aligning with NFPA70E safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) required.
  • 2–5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment or similar field.
  • Electrical Code training or safety training seminars and courses.
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Maintenance Technicians in troubleshooting machine control problems when needed.
  • Focal point to work with external technical resources to problem solve and implement solutions.
  • Develop training documentation of solutions and safe procedures for Maintenance Technicians.
  • Manage machine and equipment upgrade projects including investigations, cost estimates, installations and start-up.
  • Learn new capital equipment operation, controls design, and hardware to support maintenance.
  • Assist Project Engineering with equipment installation, checkout, start-up and training as necessary.
  • Adhere to current industry practices for safe work and safe equipment operation (NFPA70E etc.).
  • Verify and oversee preventative maintenance on electrical substations and high voltage switchgear; document observations and actions.
  • Participate in equipment project teams, safety teams, and continuous improvement teams.

Job Title: Electrical Controls Engineer

To provide electrical engineering support for manufacturing production operations and the continuous improvement of machine and equipment controls.

The Opportunity to Add Value:
  • Acts as an electrical engineering resource to assist Maintenance Technicians troubleshoot machine control problems when additional resources, skills, or knowledge are required to solve the problem.
  • Focal person to work with external technical resources, when necessary, to problem solve and implement solutions.
  • Develops training documentation of solutions and safe procedures to communicate with all Maintenance Technicians.
  • Manages machine and equipment upgrade projects including investigations, cost estimates, installations, and start-up. This can include expense type projects as well as capital upgrade projects.
  • Learns new capital equipment operation, controls structure/design, and hardware in order to build knowledge and proficiency to support and implement effective maintenance.
  • Assist Project Engineering with equipment installation, checkout, start-up and training as necessary.
  • Secures, maintains, and applies knowledge of current industry practices for safe work practices and safe equipment operation. Examples are National and State Electrical codes and NFPA70E (arc flash) codes.
  • Key resource for verifying and overseeing the completion of preventative maintenance on electrical substations and high voltage switchgear. This includes documentation of observations, testing, and follow-up actions.
  • Participates as a team member on equipment project teams, safety teams, and continuous improvement teams to continuously improve operations (including safety, quality, service, and costs).
Required Experience/Education:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE)
  • 2 – 5 years of work experience in a manufacturing environment or similar field
  • Electrical Code training or other safety training seminars and courses
  • Problem solving, troubleshooting experience
Preferred Experience:
  • Knowledge of plant power distribution, control systems, and PLC’s preferred
  • Ability to use measuring devices, read mechanical/electrical drawings, develop and use charts and schedules
  • Ability to be a self-starter and take action on projects proactively
  • Good communication skills both oral and written.
  • Ability to interact with plant personnel at all levels.
  • General training or understanding of industry safety work practices.
