Job summary

Qualifications

• Experience in TPM or Reliability field preferred.

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Electrical/Controls Engineer with strong PLC programming and industrial automation skills. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience with Siemens STEP7 and Schneider Electric PLC platforms, along with proficiency in AutoCAD and CMMS software for maintenance planning, scheduling, and team coordination.

Location

Morristown, TN – 100% onsite.

Responsibilities

• Develop and modify PLC programs using Siemens STEP7 and Schneider Electric PLC software.
• Ensure the safety of all employees by leading a comprehensive Sonoco safety process to prevent injuries.
• Lead plant compliance of all federal, state and local environmental and safety regulations.
• Perform as a key member of the plant leadership team – positive communicator and problem solver – driving plant/process improvements, meeting objectives and setting the bar for performance standards.
• Support pillar continuous improvement activities.
• Strong troubleshooting skills in industrial electrical controls.
• Diagnose and resolve electrical, control, and automation issues in industrial equipment.
• Assist with system upgrades, commissioning, and start‑ups.
• Collaborate with maintenance and operations teams to improve equipment reliability.
• Ensure compliance with electrical codes, safety standards, and company procedures.
• Maintain accurate technical documentation and change records.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD for electrical drawings and schematics.
• Experience using CMMS software for maintenance scheduling and asset management.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics.
• Experience with VFDs, motor controls, and industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, Profibus, Modbus).
• Strong understanding of OSHA requirements related to equipment in‑house.
• Identify gaps and assist in implementing countermeasures to achieve Zero Safety Incidents.
• Lead and develop a highly collaborative and effective team.
• Proficient in Root Cause Analysis techniques (FMEA’s, 5Why’s, ATS, etc.) and developing/implementing countermeasures to drive Zero Breakdown culture.
• Process‑oriented: identify gaps in any process and implement solutions.
• Management experience in manufacturing or industrial environments.
• Lead, prioritize, and coordinate work for maintenance and technical teams.
• Plan and schedule work using CMMS or similar systems.
• Experience with preventive maintenance programs and reliability initiatives.
• Strong project management skills, including task prioritization, timelines, and resource allocation.
• Effective communication skills for working with operations, management, and external vendors.
• Mentor technicians and engineers and support skill development.
• Experience managing contractors, vendors, and service providers.
• Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities under time‑sensitive conditions.
• Coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance activities using CMMS software.
• Understand safety leadership and enforcement of electrical and workplace safety standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3years of successful experience leading a plant maintenance department in an industrial manufacturing environment and/or 5years of supervisory manufacturing experience.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Maintenance, Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience with CMMS preferred.
• Experience in TPM or Reliability field preferred.
