The Electrical Controls Engineer is responsible for maintaining and enhancing plant process control systems to ensure optimal operation, reliability, and continuous improvement. This role involves troubleshooting electrical and controls-related issues, implementing control system software changes, and participating in capital projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in robotics and automation, with experience in designing, implementing, and troubleshooting automated systems.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Managing, developing, and implementing new capital projects and EIC projects, including design, procurement, construction, commissioning, qualification, and startup.
  2. Providing technical expertise in troubleshooting control system failures and educating peers and maintenance staff.
  3. Collaborating with engineering, maintenance, and operations to improve equipment and process systems.
  4. Improving equipment uptime and contributing to plant reliability efforts.
  5. Developing and maintaining controls architecture standards with internal and external partners.
  6. Supporting performance, safety, and quality improvements, as well as cost-savings initiatives.
  7. Leading and supervising engineering firms, contractors, and vendors.
  8. Building controls knowledge within the maintenance team.
  9. Supporting CAPEX projects from routine to large-scale expansions.
  10. Leading projects through all development stages, including initial conceptualization and start-up.
  11. Managing vendors to ensure compliance with plant standards.
  12. Serving as the subject matter expert for electrical systems, including PLC, HMI, drives, robotics, and instrumentation, and training maintenance staff.
  13. Providing input for plant controls strategy and recommending improvements.
  14. Documenting equipment and control system changes and maintaining records.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
  2. 5+ years of industrial controls experience.
  3. Understanding of power distribution and Arc Flash compliance.
  4. Strong problem-solving skills, communication skills, and leadership qualities.
  5. Experience with designing, implementing, and troubleshooting automated systems.
  6. Proficiency with schematics, wiring diagrams, and robotic systems programming.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Experience with consumer-packaged goods equipment is preferred.

Knowledge & Skills include:

  • Proficiency with PLC and controls products (e.g., ControlLogix, HMI, VFDs), industrial networks, and process instrumentation.
  • Understanding of OT systems, electrical safety, and standards such as NEC, NFPA, OSHA.
  • Experience with process instrumentation and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Excellent communication, mentoring, and soft skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications.
