Job summary

Gresham Smith seeks an Electrical Commissioning Technician for Building Engineering Market (Finance) to support mission‑critical commissioning across data centers and facilities. You will help plan, budget, and review documents, then coordinate site visits and deliverables on active projects.

The role requires travel, strong knowledge of electrical systems (normal and emergency power), and the ability to train teammates.

Qualifications

  • HS Diploma or A.S Degree required.
  • Must be able to travel regularly on a flexible schedule.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of electrical system installation and operation. Both normal and emergency power.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to train others in all activities listed above.
  • Valid Driver's License and clean background check (drug screenings will be a requirement on project sites).
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and commissioning software.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare project‑specific commissioning scope of services and assist in budgeting.
  • Provide peer review of documents for constructability and commission‑ability.
  • Prepare commissioning plans (pre‑functional checklists and functional performance tests) and review plans for completeness.
  • Review contractor submittals for compliance to contract documents.
  • Schedule and coordinate commissioning site visits and deliverables for projects.
  • Travel to active project sites to perform commissioning activities (in a safe and professional manner).
  • Compose and issue commissioning site visit reports.
  • Review Coordination Study reports and field verify.
  • Review and understand electrical reports related to testing (e.g., megger reports, torque reports, NETA documentation).
  • Understand and be familiar with emergency power systems.
  • Review training and O&M materials provided by contractors.
  • Prepare final commissioning reports for projects.
  • Additional commissioning activities may be required.

About the Role

Our commissioning team specializes in commissioning the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems of a diverse range of facilities, including mission‑critical, industrial, healthcare, aviation, commercial, and education facilities. We ensure reliability, efficiency, and quality in every project.

As an Electrical Commissioning Technician, you will
  • Prepare project‑specific commissioning scope of services and assist in budgeting.
  • Provide peer review of documents for constructability and commission‑ability.
  • Prepare commissioning plans (pre‑functional checklists and functional performance tests) and review plans for completeness.
  • Review contractor submittals for compliance to contract documents.
  • Schedule and coordinate commissioning site visits and deliverables for projects.

  • Review Coordination Study reports and field verify.

  • Understand and be familiar with emergency power systems.
  • Review training and O&M materials provided by contractors.
  • Prepare final commissioning reports for projects.
  • Additional commissioning activities may be required.
The successful candidate should be able to follow design/design assistance activities
  • Review Gresham Smith's electrical sequences of operations and details for optimal performance and implementation.
  • Review electrical construction drawings and understand panel schedules and one‑line diagrams.
  • Perform Construction Administration for Gresham Smith designs.
  • Review contractor submittals for compliance to contract documents.
  • Perform due diligence studies on existing buildings.
  • Participate in contract bidding and administration. Observe the ongoing progress of a project.
  • Assist in the coordination of projects with clients, contractors, outside consultants, and firm staff. Communicate and interact with project team members, client representatives, review agencies, and others as appropriate to the project.
  • Assist in resolving a variety of complex problems (e.g., conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, difficult coordination requirements).
