Job summary

PTR Global in Richmond, VA, seeks an intermediate-level electrical designer with a background in design, drafting, and review of detailed electrical drawings for construction deliverables in a non-nuclear power generation setting. Reports to a Supervisor of Design and Documentation and provides coordination support to other drafters and designers.

The role may require occasional site visits, including overnight stays, to meet project needs.

Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of electrical engineering design and drafting principles.
  • Strong experience with MicroStation and AutoCAD.
  • Experience with drawing/document management systems is a plus.

  • Understand and employ personal safety practices at all times.
  • Prepare and review electrical drawings in support of power generation engineering projects per corporate standards.
  • Provide general electrical design support for the power generation fleet (equipment, cable/raceway, drawing number support).
  • Coordinate site visits and perform fieldwork as necessary.
  • Provide support for Project Management and Construction groups as required (act as the point of contact for applicable design deliverables).
  • Review and provide feedback on peer, vendor, and Architect/Engineer drawing submittals.
  • Maintain drawing records per corporate and compliance policies.

Job description

Seeking highly engaged, team-oriented individuals with a background in design, drafting, and review of detailed electrical engineering drawings related to construction deliverables (e.g., single lines, wiring diagrams, plan drawings) in a non-nuclear Power Generation setting. This position reports to a Supervisor of Design and Documentation and functions as an intermediate-level designer for the electrical design group, providing technical and coordination support to other electrical drafters and designers as necessary. The role may require occasional site visits, including overnight stays, to meet project needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Understand and employ personal safety practices at all times.
  • Become familiar with and employ environmental compliance at all times.
  • Prepare and review electrical drawings in support of power generation engineering projects per corporate standards.
  • Provide general electrical design support for the power generation fleet (e.g., equipment, cable/raceway, and drawing number support).
  • Coordinate site visits and perform fieldwork as necessary.
  • Provide support for Project Management and Construction groups as required (e.g., act as the point of contact for applicable design deliverables).
  • Review and provide feedback on peer, vendor, and Architect/Engineer drawing submittals.
  • Maintain drawing records per corporate and compliance policies.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of relative experience in the power generation industry desired.
  • Thorough knowledge of electrical engineering design and drafting principles.
  • Knowledge of applicable regulations, related codes, and standards (e.g., NEC, IEEE, NERC).
  • Strong MicroStation and AutoCAD skills.
  • Proficiency in drawing and document management systems (ProjectWise & Documentum preferred).
  • Well-developed and effective interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment as a fully engaged and supporting team member.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Ability to manage project workloads with minimal direction.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in project scope and schedules.

Education:

  • Required: High School diploma or GED.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree in a technology-related discipline.
