Job description

Position Summary

This position works under indirect supervision and is responsible for creating working shop drawings of a very complex nature using advanced detailing techniques, from engineering documents, that are used to support shop fabrication and field installation on various construction projects. Coordinates drawings with other trades and works closely with assigned Project Managers, construction supervision, field personnel, vendors and design engineers. Operates all computer-aided design drafting (CADD) system and peripheral equipment, making maximum usage of advanced software capabilities and exercises expert skill in the use of AutoCAD, Revit and Navisworks to develop drawings. Reports to a Senior Lead BIM Coordinator. Work is usually reviewed for accuracy by the Lead BIM Coordinator, Senior Lead BIM Coordinator, construction supervisor and/or the BIM Coordination Manger. Performs other duties as required.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Generates construction and fabrication drawings using CADD equipment and peripherals for a variety of large complex commercial and industrial projects.
  • Reviews construction drawings for apparent conflicts with architectural and structural contract documents and to ensure compliance with local code requirements.
  • Works closely with project management team for resolution of issues identified during reviews through the Request For Information (RFI) process.
  • Coordinates draft construction drawings with other trades to ensure routings and clearances are understood and no obstructions exist.
  • Working with other trades and coordinating each trades layout specification.
  • Attending coordination meetings at jobsite and/or offices.
  • Partnering with project Superintendents and Project manager to complete tasks as assigned and needed.
  • Performs site surveys and field measurement work as needed to support the conceptual and design drawing effort.
  • Reviews submittal documents for accuracy.
  • Maintains logs as needed for RFIs, transmittals, and drawings.
  • Identifies and resolves issues with clients, architects, engineers, building owners and vendors related to construction drawings and drawings of record.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective completion of projects.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma required.
  • One year Revit and Auto CAD, and Navisworks.
  • Should have a minimum of three (3) years trade experience in field installation with a solid skill level.

  • Proficient in Windows, Excel, Word, Outlook, Bluebeam.
  • Strong Computer skills and aptitude for learning.
  • Intermediate mathematical skills.

  • Communicate with Superintendent, vendors and customers effectively.
  • Working knowledge of electrical parts and their intended use.

  • Working knowledge of safety procedures and firm believer in safety.
  • General problem solving ability.
Work Environment

May work inside or outside, with varying environmental conditions such as fluorescent lighting and air conditioning. This role also uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. Possible exposure to hot and cold temperatures, weather elements, dust, restricted or confined spaces, and slippery or uneven surfaces; works on ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, in ditches and excavations; works in and around single and multi-story buildings with all exposures typical of a construction site, including portable sanitary facilities.

Physical Demands
  • Requires mobility within an office environment.
  • Requires travel by vehicle.
  • Regularly required to talk and effectively communicate with others both written and orally, including using the telephone.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • The employee is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; bend. May be required to stoop, kneel, and crouch. Requires long periods of standing, walking, typing, carrying, and climbing ladders/scadling.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Possess good hearing, normal or corrected.
  • The employee must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, lift and /or move up to 50 pounds. The employee may be required to climb stairs. Must be able to work 8 hours a day, 40 hours per week, and overtime as required and night or weekend shifts, as needed.
