Job summary

IECRM is seeking instructors in Denver, CO to teach using the National IEC Curriculum on a year-to-year basis. Instructors will write and grade tests, develop lesson plans, and track attendance while integrating personal experiences into the curriculum.

Qualified candidates hold CO/WY Journeyman or Master Electrician licenses, a high school diploma, and must obtain a CO Vocational Teaching Credential plus IEC/National and State certifications.

Qualifications

• Valid Colorado or Wyoming Journeyman’s or Master’s Electrician License required.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Active or retired electrician; IECRM membership is a plus.
• Must obtain CO Vocational Teaching Credential; IEC/National Certification and State Certification required.
• Pay range: $36–$53 per hour; new hires start at $36 per hour.

Responsibilities

• Teach using the National IEC Curriculum and enhance with personal visuals.
• Write and grade tests, quizzes, and homework assignments.
• Prepare Lesson Plans for the Training Director.
• Maintain attendance records and documentation (Gradebook/CMS).
• Communicate clearly with students and IECRM staff.
• Adhere to schedule: class 5:30–9:30 p.m.; may include after-hours events.

About The Role

IECRM instructors are the key to future success in the electrical industry. Instructors are hired to teach on a year to year basis. They will use the National IEC Curriculum as the base of their teaching, but may enhance the curriculum with PowerPoints and visuals from their own experiences. The instructor is responsible for writing and grading tests, quizzes, and homework assignments. New Instructors are paid on an annual contract of 36 class sessions for which IECRM will compensate new Instructors $180 per class.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

• IECRM Career College considers the Instructor’s position to be one of extreme importance. The Instructor is the contact between IECRM and the apprentice.
• Instructors shall attempt, whenever possible, to be neatly dressed. A shirt and long pants are preferred. Some Instructors will come to the classroom straight from their jobs as electricians. It is understood by IECRM that under these circumstances, clean, neat clothing may be difficult to obtain.
• Instructors will adhere to the schedule. Class time is from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. To comply with regulations, class may never be dismissed prior to 9 p.m.
• Instructors will provide Lesson Plans to the Training Director. This form will be given and explained to instructors before classes begin.
• Instructors will be responsible for preparation and class instruction of IEC National Curriculum Objectives.
• Instructors will accurately track and record student attendance.
• Instructors will communicate clearly and effectively with students and IECRM staff.
• Instructors are encouraged to participate in IECRM events and activities that may occur outside of the normal class schedule.
• All Gradebook and CMS documentation will be accurately maintained by the Instructor.

Skills And Qualifications

• Prior teaching experience is not mandatory. We will provide training on successful teaching methods.
• A valid State of Colorado or Wyoming Journeyman’s or Master’s Electrical License is required.
• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• The instructor must be an active or retired electrician. Being an IECRM member is a benefit to being an instructor. Graduates of IECRM are also encouraged to apply.
• The Instructor must obtain a State of Colorado Vocational Teaching Credential from EGTC before employment as an IECRM Instructor. IEC National Certification and State Certification are also required. Information about these programs will be given when hired.
• Pay Range: $36 - $53 per hour, with new employees starting at $36 per hour

Average Hours: This is a part time role, with most instructors working 5 hours per week to start.

Posting Timeframe: Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis, with no deadlines in place

Benefits: Instructors are eligible to participate in a retirement savings plan. Instructors will be provided with paid sick leave, accrued at one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to 48 hours per year.

• An evaluation of instructor performance will be conducted each year. A merit pay incentive will be provided for those instructors who meet the qualifications.
• Instructors that teach 3 or more 8 hour CEU classes (Qualifying classes - Wiring Methods, Theory & Calculations, NEC Changes, Grounding and Bonding) during a scheduled code cycle for IECRM will qualify to take up to 24 hours of personal CEU classes (Qualifying classes - Wiring Methods, Theory & Calculations, NEC Changes, Grounding and Bonding) complimentary of IECRM.
• Instructors that teach the apprenticeship program and/or less than 3 - 8 hour CEU’s (Qualifying classes - Wiring Methods, Theory & Calculations, NEC Changes, Grounding and Bonding) or other nonqualifying Career College classes during a scheduled code cycle for IECRM will qualify to take Career College/CEU classes at a discounted rate of 50% of tuition, plus the cost of books and DOE fee.
• IECRM will annually provide each Instructor one set of all necessary textbooks, workbooks, etc.
