Job summary

The College of Eastern Idaho seeks an electrical apprentice instructor to teach in its apprenticeship program. Classes are held Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday from 7pm to 10pm (6 hours weekly).

Instructors may take on extra hours for preparation and admin, teaching both theory and practical electrical work, including code and ongoing CEU topics. Responsibilities include developing curriculum, recording grades, and reporting to the program manager and Idaho’s Division of Building Safety.

Qualifications

  • State of Idaho Journeyman Electrician License.
  • Ability to interact professionally and respectfully with students and CEI staff.
  • Dependable and organized.
  • Incumbent must reside in Idaho; CEI does not sponsor visas.

Job description

Job Summary

The electrical apprentice instructor is responsible for providing classroom instruction to students in the College of Eastern Idaho’s apprenticeship program. Classes are held either Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7pm to 10pm (6 hours per week). Instructors may be assigned additional hours for class preparation and administration as needed. The instructor will teach both the theory and practical applications of electrical systems, as well as electrical code.

Depending on qualifications, instructors may also be assigned to teach continuing education classes such as NEC Code Updates and Electrical Calculations on a semi‑annual basis.

Typical Job Functions
  • Provide instruction to electrical apprentices both in‑person and online
  • Develop curriculum, lesson plans and assessments to supplement those provided by the program manager and fellow instructors
  • Record student grades and attendance for reporting to both the program manager and the State of Idaho Division of Building Safety
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
  • State of Idaho Journeyman Electrician License
  • Ability to interact professionally and respectfully with both students and CEI staff members
  • Dependable and organized
  • Incumbent must reside in Idaho (currently CEI does not sponsor visas)
Additional Desired Qualifications
  • Current or Retired Electrician or Electrical Inspector
  • 3+ years of experience as a Journeyman electrician
  • State of Idaho Master Electrician License
  • Teaching experience
  • Proficiency with computers, particularly Outlook, Excel, video‑conferencing software (Zoom, Teams, etc.) and learning management software such as Schoology or Canvas
  • Bilingual (Spanish)
Physical Demands and Work Environment

Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not necessarily from occasional temperature changes. The employee is regularly required to sit and often uses repetitive hand motions. On‑site work is essential and regular predictable attendance is required. Employees may be required to work at occasional events and handle tasks outside of regular working hours.

Background Investigations

Employment at College of Eastern Idaho will be contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background investigation and may require a credit and/or motor vehicle background investigation depending on the position. Please refer to Policy 225: Background Checks.
