Job summary

The J.M. Smucker Company is hiring an Electrical & Instrumentation Technician for the night shift in Decatur, AL. Compensation starts at $40.60 per hour plus a $2.00 per hour shift differential, with a 6:30pm–7:00am rotating 2-2-3 schedule.

You will inspect, troubleshoot, and repair electrical instrumentation and automation systems, following GMPs and safety policies while supporting continuous improvement and training initiatives.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience with electrical systems PLC motor and motion controls SCADA systems device and information networks sensors instrumentation equipment for manufacturing is required.
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule as needed.
  • Able to read, understand and follow documents such as safety policies, SOPs, GMPs and general instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair electrical instrumentation, controls and automation equipment.
  • Proficiency in operation of Studio5000/Logix5000, FactoryTalk ME/SEE, and Ethernet/IP networks.
  • Perform preventive maintenance activities and document results.
  • Lead and coach team members on electrical controls skills and safety practices.

In this role you will:

Responsible for the manufacture of consumer foods which comply with all food safety quality and regulatory requirementsUnderstands and supports company and site safety policies and performs work related activities in a safe manner. Recognizes unsafe work conditions coaches peers and suggests new safety standards as appropriateUnderstands follows and improves documented operational maintenance and sanitation standards in a Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) work environmentInspects maintains troubleshoots and repairs electrical instrumentation controls and automation equipment and softwareProficiency in operation and troubleshooting of the following:Power DistributionStudio5000 or Logix5000 platform hardware and softwareDrives and Motion ControlFactoryTalk ME & SEEthernet/IP Control NetworkFood Manufacturing and Utility InstrumentationMaintains and properly operates electrical testing equipmentUtilizes drawings prints and instruction manuals to determine proper steps to be taken for equipment preventative maintenance troubleshooting and repairs adheres to company drawing and documentation standardsPerforms preventive maintenance activities and work orders in a timely manner to maximize performance of plant equipment. Improves and modifies preventative maintenance activities as appropriateCoaches other team members on electrical instrumentation and controls skills machine functionality defect identification and resolution and equipment repairActive participation in training and qualification programs for designated line/area participate in assessments ensure effective training and maintain consistent qualification standardsUses continuous improvement tools including breakdown elimination to eliminate losses and drive issues to root cause documents communicates and implements corrective and preventative actionsServes as an owner of one or more technical safety or quality systems responsible for building technician skills and providing ongoing coachingCreates documentation as needed (SOPs Job Aids PM Improvements etc.)Increases skills and knowledge by attending technical training sessions participating in vendor visits and scheduled maintenance activities attains expertise in advanced E&I technology (networks servers FactoryTalk motion controls etc.)Attains and maintains low voltage qualification within six months of start dateUses a computer to input and maintain accurate records and data can utilize e-mail and online training resourcesMaintains accurate electronic database of repair and maintenance activities including parts usage and time trackingAssists in maintaining and developing plant drawings and documentationFacilitates effective shift pass-downs with the prior/next shift to discuss safety quality and production issuesLead projects to improve safety quality or production results in a designated areaWorks as part of a team and assists fellow employees as neededOther duties as assigned
