Job summary

Pratt Industries, Inc. in Shreveport, LA, seeks an experienced Electrical and Instrumentation Technician to install, maintain, and troubleshoot control systems and electrical equipment across the paper mill.

You will read electrical measurements, bend conduit, pull wire, supervise electrical contractors, and assist with shutdown planning while working a 12-hour rotating day/night shift.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree or technical diploma in a related field or NJATC/equivalent program.
  • NJATC or equivalent program completion is preferred.
  • Experience in electrical maintenance in an industrial facility is a plus.
  • Ability to read electrical measuring devices accurately.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, repair, and troubleshoot electrical equipment across the paper mill.
  • Read work orders and communicate with team members, operators, and management; keep accurate records.
  • Run/bend conduit and pull wire; read electrical measurements.
  • Direct and supervise electrical contractors; plan and supervise shutdowns.

Job description

Pratt Industries, Inc., a world-leading corrugated packaging manufacturing company, is seeking an experienced Electrical and Instrumentation Technician. The position is located at our state of the art 100% recycled paper mill in Shreveport, LA.

Responsible for installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting intermediate to advanced control system problems of all electrical equipment at our Shreveport, LA Paper Mill. This equipment includes but is not limited to, plant lighting, motors, starters, motor control centers, control panels, transformers, and switches on the Paper Machine, Winder and other equipment to maintain maximum uptime.

Applicant must be able to understand work orders and be able to troubleshoot electrical equipment that is not operating properly. Must be able to communicate orally with the team members, operators, management, and keep accurate records. Must be able to read multiple types of electrical measuring devices accurately. Must be able to run/bend conduit and pull wire. Technician will be required to perform additional duties as assigned.

Employee will be expected to work individually and in teams. Technician must be able to direct and supervise electrical contractors when required. Plan and supervise shutdown work activities.

Education and Experience:
  • Associates degree from two-year College in a related technical field, diploma from technical/trade school in related field, or completion of a National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (NJATC) or equivalent program for the Electrical Industry.
  • Experience in the electrical construction and or maintenance of an industrial manufacturing facility is an asset.
  • In-depth knowledge of maintenance of the paper manufacturing plant is an asset.
Computer Skills:
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must have basic computer use knowledge.
Physical Work Requirements:
  • Technician will be responsible for following safe procedures and all safe workplace policies. It is plant policy to work in a safe manner. All employees must ensure guards are in place, lock-out procedures are followed, and ensure zero energy state. Observe all hazards such as nip points and follow plant department safety rules.
  • Applicants must also be able to climb up steps or ladders in order to troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on the equipment. Lifting requirements are 40-80 pounds to assist co-workers in lifting materials to put in place. Lifting devices are available for any material handling needs above 80lbs. Technicians are required to have excellent hand and finger dexterity for the use of hand tools and powered equipment.

The employee must be able to work a 12 hour rotating day/night shift schedule with additional shutdown and vacation coverage as needed.
