Electrical and Instrumentation Technician

Location: Greater Cincinnati Area

Position Overview

A well-established food manufacturer is seeking an experienced Electrical and Instrumentation Technician to support its processing and packaging operations. This position will be responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, and improving electrical, controls, and instrumentation systems while developing a strong understanding of the facility’s production equipment and operating processes.

The ideal candidate will have strong logical troubleshooting skills, a desire to expand their technical expertise, and the ability to communicate effectively with production, maintenance, engineering, vendors, and contractors.

Key Responsibilities
Electrical and Instrumentation Support

Perform electrical and instrumentation maintenance activities to support production, safety, quality, reliability, and efficiency.

Troubleshoot electrical, instrumentation, control, processing, and packaging equipment issues.

Diagnose equipment failures and drive repairs through completion.

Perform routine maintenance and correct equipment defects identified by operators or maintenance teams.

Participate in root-cause analysis following major equipment failures or production downtime.

Use structured problem-solving methods to identify the underlying cause of recurring issues.

Accurately enter maintenance, equipment, and operational information into company systems.

Use computer-based tools and software to review data, document work, and support troubleshooting.

Provide technical coaching and guidance to production operators.

Develop the operational knowledge required to support processing or packaging equipment when needed.

Communication and Teamwork

Communicate electrical and instrumentation issues clearly, both verbally and in writing.

Partner with operators, production leaders, maintenance personnel, and technical team members to resolve equipment issues.

Work effectively with employees at all levels of the organization.

Participate in technical training, plant meetings, team activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Coordinate with outside contractors, vendors, and suppliers when additional technical support is required.

Maintain clear communication regarding repair status, equipment condition, and outstanding issues.

Leadership and Problem-Solving

Take ownership of troubleshooting activities and lead problems through resolution.

Recognize equipment or process concerns and recommend practical solutions.

Demonstrate initiative, self-direction, and accountability for assigned work.

Meet commitments, deadlines, and performance expectations.

Participate in preventive maintenance, autonomous maintenance, and focused improvement teams as assigned.

Manage personal training, qualification, and technical-development requirements.

Apply sound judgment when prioritizing competing maintenance and production needs.

Support conflict resolution and collaborative problem-solving within the department.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Two years of technical, electrical, instrumentation, or skilled-trades training preferred.

Two to five years of electrical and instrumentation experience preferred.

Strong electrical, instrumentation, controls, and equipment troubleshooting skills.

General mechanical aptitude and knowledge of industrial maintenance practices.

Experience supporting manufacturing, processing, or packaging equipment is preferred.

Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, manuals, and technical documentation.

Strong computer skills, including experience with spreadsheets and maintenance or enterprise software.

Ability to accurately work with numbers and enter technical data.

Must successfully complete applicable math and electrical aptitude assessments.

Strong communication, time-management, organization, and priority-setting skills.

Ability to work cross-functionally in a team-based manufacturing environment.

Demonstrated commitment to safety and continuous improvement.

Schedule and Physical Requirements

Must be available to work second or third shift.

Must be willing to adjust working hours to complete training or support operational needs.

Overtime, weekends, and extended hours may be required.

Must be willing to qualify on production equipment and support operating responsibilities when necessary.

Must meet the facility’s attendance and reliability expectations.

Ability to climb stairs and ladders and work from platforms or elevated areas.

Ability to stand and walk for at least 70% of the shift.

Ability to work around industrial equipment and on concrete flooring.

Ability to safely lift and move materials weighing up to 75 pounds.
