Job description

The Electrical and Instrumentation Engineer (E&I), as part of the Engineering Services COE (Center of Excellence) at a major integrated petrochemical manufacturing facility, is responsible for specification, design, and maintenance of the instrumentation for all plant operations, including field installations and associated control devices in local and remote locations. This individual would be responsible for developing maintenance and reliability strategies related to this instrumentation and for providing guidance to internal customers to maintain the reliability of this instrumentation.

Primary Job Functions
  • Provides technical support for the maintenance, operation, and troubleshooting of the plant's instrumentation systems and equipment, including low voltage electrical systems and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s)
  • Investigates instrumentation equipment failures and recommends actions to enhance the system and equipment reliability
  • Develops instrumentation/low voltage electrical equipment specifications and associated reliability improvements/upgrade plans for that equipment
  • Provides technical support for front-end development, cost estimation, design, construction, and startup for projects and change packages
  • Assists in the development of maintenance and operating procedures for instrumentation equipment
  • Serves as a technical resource to maintenance technicians
  • Maintains instrument networks/linkages with other plants and central engineering resources
  • Understands and interprets ExxonMobil's instrument practices
  • Has a working knowledge of industry standards and regulations (e.g. ISA, NEC, IEEE)
  • Has knowledge of electrical area classifications and is familiar with acceptable methods of satisfying the requirements of equipment installations in hazardous areas
Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of personnel at different levels of engineering, design, maintenance, and management and with internal customers as well as suppliers
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively and clearly in both written and verbal form for the purpose of instructing others in technical matters and obtaining cooperation from various personnel.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of an experience in one or more of the following areas: Routing/Switching, Cyber Security, Wireless
  • Basic knowledge of API guidelines for instrumentation
  • Work experience in petrochemical production units and awareness of surroundings from a safety and environmental point of view
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or Chemical Engineering
  • Manufacturing Chemical plant experience dealing with control systems, electric power, and related engineering projects
